ST Dupont Ligne 2 - Butane Q's
Hey Guys!
Mostly a lurker around here, but I just got one of these brand new and it is being shipped with no fluid and should arrive by Sunday I ordered 3 Gold Dupont refills, but they will not be here until later next week and I got to use it! So after some poking around I found a few people talk about using "normal" butane as well in these very high end lighters. I stopped by the local cigar shop and they had 5 or so 350ml sized bottles available. I bought Vector 14X (up to 14x if you read it carefully). Would this be safe to use in this lighter at least until the Dupont mfg stuff shows up? THX! |

Yes, it will work with no issue. The problem is you will need the proper adapter to be able to use it. Check out Ebay for Dupont adapters to get an idea or just wait until you receive your dupongaz.

Adapters usually come either the gas canisters. The plastic ones do just fine.

Hmm ok. The can has a 1/2 inch long cylinder tube sticking out of it. Similar to the bic pen ink cartridge in diameter. I will try to send a pic.
Sounds like that won't work? Sent On The Fly |

It looks as though there are some adapters in the cap? I guess the $32 question is which one to use?

You might get lucky using one of the adapter that came with the gas. The adapters on Ebay are brass that actually screws down to the lighter. I got lucky to be able to fill a ligne 1 red using the plastic adapter but my Gatsby (green) will only fill using the brass adapter or dupongaz. I also got another ligne 1 short that you cannot use the adapter only dupongaz. Look at the gas fill valve, if there is what looks like like a needle sticking out in the center of the fill valve, stop and wait for the dupongaz. If what you see is just like a round tube with a hole. You might get lucky with one of the plastic adapter. They're great lighters but I kinda like the one hand use of the Dunhill lighters. You need a little practice using the dupont especially the ligne 1 short.

Big one is ligne 2. I got lucky with the middle one. I did not even use any adapter. Lot's of escaping gas but it filled. I would not use any adapter only dupongaz on the smaller one. If you're able to fill the lighter, make sure you completely empty the gas tank before using dupongaz.

Far left is the ligne 2 correct?
I will try without the adapter first. Sent On The Fly |

Correct, left is ligne 2 (yellow/gold tube), middle is ligne 1 large (red tube) and right is ligne 1 small (yellow/gold tube). By the way when you do your first fill up, screw the gas tube all the way in. If you don't see any action on the clear part of the gas tube after 2 to 3 minutes back out the tube 1/8 to 1/4 turn, no more. I back it out to much after 4 minutes and gas sprayed all over. Lucky I was just quick enough to screw it back in and able to salvage what's left. That would have been $5 lost if you buy the 10 pack or $8 if you buy the individual gas tube. Since I don't use the lighter that much it still works after a month. Good luck and enjoy your dupont.

Cool thx.
I found at a semi local cigar shop some gold refills. So I will just use them. The informative salesmen said to cool the lighter with gel packs prior to filling it and the fluid will suck right in. So I will try that. Sent On The Fly |
