Hi guys, i have a polar explorer II 16570 that i absolutely adore. I brought it couple of weeks ago but didn't notice that it was overpolished to death on the lugs. Its a no holes case. Was wondering about the cost of a new case from RSC and the cost for such a thing?

I showed it to a reputable watchmaker in Sydney and he said its a classic case of bad polishing. I got a quote for about 1k+ AUD dollars for laser welding everything back to factory settings. In comparison what is the cost for a new case?

Its my favorite Rolex by far, I have it on straps atm since its impossible to notice with that. Thanks for ur input and help guys

Wow...really? You really want to buy a new case? My 16570 is polished, dinged and still looks great. Tough to tell from that picture but I wouldn't worry about it...just enjoy the watch. It is a rugged explorers watch after all, not a dress watch

Its noticeable when I run my fingers over the bracelet and lug so photos are not a good judge. im OCD i need it fixed

If your OCD I would have just bought a new watch then. Odds of being happy with any used watch isnt good imo. Actually it doesn't look bad to me. Yes over polished but still looks very nice. I would enjoy it for a while and then trade it in for a new watch so you dont have to go through it again.

The value of your watch with an original polished case should still be greater than a service case. Don't do it.

I would sell it as is, then purchase a new one. Might be a better route.

I saw an empty datejust ss case on eBay a few days ago. I believe the BIN was $2k. Figures I can't find the dam listing now.

If it bothers you that much selling this piece and buying another one would probably be the cheapest option.

Flip it. RSC won't replace a case unless it is seriously trashed.

I'd be surprised if Rolex would replace the case without performing a full service, which I think is 750-800 USD now?

Unless you can get a case on your own and have an independent swap it out, you're starting close to 1k before the cost of the case comes into play.

How are you about value retention? I believe a new case means a new serial #...may not go over well with buyers in the future if you think you'll sell.

As the others said, if it's that big of a deal, flip and replace. Or live with it. Looks fine to me.

1) Sell the Explorer II immediately. Don't put another penny into it. Not .01.

2) DO NOT buy another ROLEX yet. You should not have bought this one in the first place, which tells me you aren't knowledgeable yet.

3) Research, research, research...especially if you are buying a preowned reference.

4) Best thing really is buy a BRAND NEW Rolex from an AD....but that ref EXP II is not available at AD anymore, so if you really want that one...do the research.

Your watch is fine - no need to look into replacing the case.

If it bothers you that much then sell it and get another one in better condition.

It's a tool watch not jewelry, imho. Wear it as a time piece. Even in brand new condition if won't be worth significantly more.

I agree

The points where the OP says it is "overpolished" is where the end-link is even with the lug on one side.

Using the bracelet end-link as a reference point for the case lug thickness is wrong..they all fit a little bit differently. I have watches that have never been worked on and the end-link sits even with the lug horn..

Yup flip and replace! I got an 116610LN pre-owned and found that the side was overpolished and flipped it 24 hours later for a 216570 NEW to alleviate my OCD. I did a hell of a job on the deal too

Btw a Rolex service case will set you back around USD $3000 depending on the model. That is exchange part only, no service included. YIKES you say!
