Will this bracelet hinge contact cause premature wear? (photo attached)

I was wondering if the blade hinge which makes contact against the oyster bracelet when closed and on the wrist will cause premature wear on the hinge.

I noticed there are marks on the oyster link as the blade rubs against the link when worn.

Wonder if anyone has seen any damage from this sort of wear?

Looking at my own watch, I see the wear on the center link from the rubbing, but I don't think this will outweigh the wear that comes from the bracelet moving around on your wrist. I think you're more likely to reach failure from bracelet stretch than the wear on the hinge itself

It was the best pointer at the time!!

My finger is too fat!

Besides, had to use something as pretty as the watch in the same photo.

I suspect they all show some wear for that; never heard of it as a failure point however.

That's what the spare links are for . Seriously though, I have one of my non rolex watches where this has been wearing for years and it's still not even close to starting to fail. I suppose eventually, it is plausible, but it's likely something else that will give out long before. If that were the weak spot, it would be the easiest to repair as it's only a spare link which most of us already have - much cheaper than a clasp.

It might depend on the size of your wrist. For bigger wrists, I suspect the clasp wouldn't rub against the bracelet.

Rolex bracelets are really strong and thick, doubt you will see an issue because of that.

This. However I believe Rolex has shortened the clasp because of that possibility (or for comfort).

I've got a small wrist so unfortunately there is still contact.

I'm sure you'll never have an issue....
Once the entire system is sandwiched against your arm, it won't matter.....
