Embarrassed by white ceramic diver / Design flaw
Last night I met up some friends at the beach for beers. After some time I was trying to check the time as I have to leave at 10pm for another gathering. To my surprise I cannot read the time off my AP at all. I have to ask another who can read the time easily off his G-shock. All my friends starting laughing if the AP on my wrist is a watch or bangles?
This morning looking closely at the dial I realized that there is no lume on the hour hand and hour markers. I think this a a big design flaw from AP especially on a diver watch which is very likely to be use in dark environment. Do you guys agreed with the design flaw? I want to feedback my disappointment to AP and I was further disappointed. I search through the AP website and there is no email address listed. Frustrating.   |

Seems like you are right. I don't see any Lume on all those things! Nevertheless, it's an excellent piece you have there!! Wear it in good health! If you ever get a reply from AP, please post it. I would be interested to find out as well. All other diver models have the Lume on, so this might be on purpose? If the hands and markers are white due to the Lume, the color contrast wouldn't look as good as it is in blue? That's my opinion

So what exactly are you going to tell AP? It's by design ... these things should be researched before purchase.
Enjoy that watch ... It's a beauty .... but a rough diver, the white ceramic it is not.

Jeez Serg, you are right but a little harsh. Anyone would think buying a diver, the watch would have lume. I agree design flaw. A diver without lume is useless. |

I still would not call it a flaw ... in any case, a questionable design decision.

Can you post a pic?
It looks like on white ceramic it does not maybe. Have you stuck it under a strong light and walked into a dark room? |

How come? I thought all AP divers have lume? Just check AP website and the official specs says it has lume, quote
Light silver-toned dial with “Méga Tapisserie” pattern, white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating (blue minutes hand), light silver-toned rotating inner bezel with diving scale and zone from 60 to 15 minutes in blue http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wat...B.OO.A010CA.01 Both my SS and Black ceramic diver have very strong lume. Maybe you can get APSC to check yours. |

Judging by OPs comments above, I assumed the ref has no lume by design. Maybe that blue pigment is not very strong. If you are at the beach at night and the watch was not exposed to any light before, it would probably not be visible.
Best thing would be to flash it with a powerful LED light or under the sunshine and get in a dark room to see how does it work.

The hands and markers are lumed, but they just aren't as bright as the normal diver.

Use your phones flash light put it against your crystal wait a few seconds and if the lime vanishes in a dark place rather quickly then send it back to be relumed

My black diver had Lume, just not torch bright lume. I presume if you flash an led on it and walk into a dark room, your diver has lume. Just not comparable to a g shock with a lit display.

With the information shared by all the helpful guys in this forum.
The conclusion is: The issue is user dumbness. Most important, my apologies to AP and her dial designer. They know what they are doing. There is lume on the white dial and is on those blue portion however the brightness is lower than the black dial version. After sun tanning the whole afternoon. I can read the time last night. I am happy even though it is not very clear. I just need to look harder and able to figure out the time. Below is the photo and I have increased the brightness of the photo by 30% for you guys to see easily. |

The lume looks surprising weak. Not sure if this is intentional but why would AP do that just for the white diver? Don't make sense.
Mine are quite strong once exposed to sun or under strong lighting for a while but they don't hold up very long. So far the best lume from watches I have owned is the Pelagos. Here's pics of my Divers lume : |

Hour hand isn't really relevant to diving and minute hand seems bright enough.
On the other hand, Completely agree that every watch could use more lume.

Even on a watch with stronger lume, I would not expect it to last into the night...

Hey Ben!
I guess the OP did not mention he has the white ceramic diver .... it shines green but the pigment is blue. Picture from his other thread (http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=459234):

White Diver
I felt the same way and decided to sell mine. The previous Diver models had great lume, was very disappointed in this model.
Yes there is lume, but pretty much useless in my opinion. I am probably in the minority, but I feel an expensive Diver should be better than this. Again, if you feel comfortable with the piece, that's all that really matters. Mark |

Well the black one sure has lume of course it doesn't last very long but it's there for sure, you tried using a flashlight on it and looking in the dark? Very surprised if it doesn't have any...
All watches I have had you could see lume only if you were in sunset and quickly after in dark or if you put it close enough to a light source, but be it Rolex, AP or PP all of them were hardly visible 30 minutes after not being in a strong light, much less than the specifications... |

Yeah I agree, send it to me I'll even send you an Omega seamaster in return, and it has lume, you're making a great deal
