Stange experience last night...

I was out last night in a bar with my friend.

Whilst paying for some drinks a guy from behind me grabs my wrist and says to my, "Hey, what watch is that?"....

I looked at him a bit strangely and said its a DayDate 40, so he turned to his wife and said, see, told you it wasn't Michael Kors... Pretty much ruined my evening....

Well there you go guys, it's official, Rose Gold DayDate 40 looks like an Michael Kors.

Do you think it might be my age? I'm 31?

Most mk watches are gold tone and I'm guessing that's how they tried to make the connection. The strange part is him grabbing your wrist. Make sure you didn't get pick pocketed.

Don't let that bother you, the majority of people do not know very much about watches.

I don't see it as a big deal. Just because an uninformed person does not know your watch does not make it less than what it is.

I don't think my response would have been an answer to his question.

Not keen on being grabbed on the wrist in that manner or environment either. I would've immediately put a good distance between the two of us. But that's just me.

Exactly. If you want to ask me a question, that's one thing. You grab me and I don't know you, we are gonna have issues.

Agreed mate - this type of action in the wrong bar in the UK could get one "glassed" as they say.

Just be very careful of that kind of distractions from pick pockets.

I hate to say it, but to some degree, I agree.

Not sure why it would ruin your night tho.

UK is a pretty big on personal space so that kind of scenario would rarely happen and if it did, it mostly probably would escalate very quickly!

I guess that idiot was rather lucky on this occasion.

If I don't know you, you def shouldn't be grabbing my wrist with my watch. Although I guess I'd have to take the environment into consideration. If we're at an expensive charity dinner, I'll prob just chalk it up to someone who took advantage of the open bar. If I'm at the park with my kid, I'd be thinking robbery...

To the OP. I could care less if someone thinks I'm wearing an Invitca, MK, or anything else. I wear my watches for me, okay and the other WIS types out there. 90% of the world has no idea what we're wearing and they don't care. Enjoy that DD40! If you're truly upset about it, send it to me so you don't have to worry about anyone thinking it's a MK again ;)

I was just thinking this.

Lots of tough guys for sure. Especially considering this is a pretty geeky place to hang out.

You're from NJ like me. If someone walked up behind you in this state and grabbed your wrist, I bet you'd go into a defensive mode. I agree with you, my first thought wouldn't be to throw a punch but I'd definitely respond. I get weirded out when strangers say "hi" to me in bars or on the street let alone touch me without permission.

I've been in more fights than I care to remember. A few of them I don't remember.

And I have never ever thrown a first punch. Even when the fights were in a ring.

There is not enough information provided to really conclude the best course of action. But for certain throwing a punch is not the right way to go.

And the facts are that very few computer tough guys would respond to this with physical violence. And if they did, likely they'd end up in a holding cell while planning to sell their Rolex in order to pay for the upcoming legal fees and court settlement.

Internet tough guys?
Because one wouldn't accept a total stranger grabbing your wrist, where an expensive watch sits?
I call that passiveness Internet wuss.

An Internet tough guy is one picking fights behind a keyboard, knowing won't face person he is antagonizing. Very different to this OP scenario.

Many people from many walks of life lurk here. I am willing to bet that many of the members are former or current Military or LE. It is those demographics that would be more inclined to react in a physical manner. I am quite sure, there are many capable individuals here in TRF...they just have great taste!

No... not really. But it might be that particular bar. Bar upgrade indicated!

Also agree with other posters that one has to be hyper-aware when this happens in a crowded place. Classic pickpocket misdirection tactic.
