Submariner Anniversary not changing date
Hi Guys,
I need your insight - I have an anniversary Sub - which was purchased new circa 2009 & worn sparingly. This week I noticed that the date will not change - I can alter the date when I unscrew the crown and pull it out to the date setting. But when it runs normally the date will not change at all. I also unscrewed the crown to the last detent and advanced the hands 48hrs or so and no change. Any ideas what is going on here? Recommendations / referrals? thanks in advance. |

Doesn't sound too serious, especially if it wasn't dropped or something. A competent watchmaker can more that likely fix you up. Or at the very least tell you what wrong with it. Of course you could always just send it to Rolex for service. Has it been serviced recently?

thanks for the reply - I've never had it serviced(worn sparingly) I spoke with Rolex NYC this morning - apparently its either all or nothing with them. If I send it in they will do a thorough service which will run from $ 600 - $ 1,000.
Watch is otherwise perfect, at this point in time I'd probably just like to have the issue corrected. |

If it's an 09 and you are having problems get the service done. I bought my father in laws sub he had it 21 years used sparingly and never serviced. I had it 2 weeks and it started running funny so I sent it in to an independant Rolex certified watch serviced out of Kansas. He did the COA, main spring replacement and replaced a jewel for $860.00 and now she is good as new.

I would do some research on some watch repair places. I know here in LA there are a couple highly recommend places other than an RSC to get work done on your watch without paying 1k for the service.

Based upon some cursory research and your replies I was also thinking of going to an independent. Hopefully there is one in the NY area I can bring it to.

Hope on Metro North. Go to Wempe on 5th Ave. Ari has a reputation for doing quick, simple jobs for nothing more than a smile and a thank you. If its a bigger job you can trust their opinion and recommendation.
Also, you get to see their new expanded store with a huge selection of all brands. |

If it is a broken spring (there is a flat spring that slaps the date over when it is time) or perhaps a broken jewel in the date mechanism, then the watch has to be taken apart to replace/repair. You say that you don't want the RSC "service", but you want them to do the same thing. i.e., take your watch apart, and only fix the date mechanism. You can find an independent to do the job for a couple hundred less, but if you don't want them to warranty the work, change seals, and pressure check afterwards you might not be using the best qualified watchmaker.
