New Apple Macbook Pro

Hi my TRF Brethren!

My old Dell Inspiron just bit the dust after 11 years. Pretty good run for a lap top!
To replace it I just purchased the Apple Macbook Pro. I'm finding that there is quite a learning curve going on. I'm able to access TRF so that's great.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on getting to know and learn this OS-X ? system?
So far it seems relatively user friendly but I still have a LOOONNGG way to go before I feel comfortable with it.
I have to do some online testing for a new position I am currently applying for and I'm a bit nervous that once I get into this assessment I'm going to have some snags. The whole thing is time based as well so once I get on the clock I have to keep moving.
If anyone has switched from PC to Mac and has any advice or tips, I sure would appreciate it!
Thanks in advance and it's good to be back to TRF without having to use my iPhone . That screen is just too darn small for these old eyes!

I would think since you can access the internet and since the test is online you should be fine. However it certainly wouldn't hurt if you could find someone or somewhere near that conducts introductory classes on the Mac OS. Taking a hands on class would certainly seem beneficial regardless.

YouTube videos for Mac OS beginners. Just like an iPhone I believe a MacBook is overly simplified. In a few days you'll realize this and wonder why you haven't had one before (full disclosure I no longer have one because unfortunately my world currently revolves around MS)

Ken, we went from a PC last year to a MacBook and are now totally Apple. If you're used to an iPhone you really shouldn't have any problems. I was apprehensive at first but it's a surprisingly simple machine.
How much time until you have to use it for the testing? As Carlos said there's so much online info there's nothing that can't be answered by a simple click.
I bet that after a week or two of using it you'll wonder why you haven't been using it all along.
We neeed a gtg sometime in the next couple of months my friend.

Apple offers classes - had my daughter learn now she's teaching me. I was resistant to Apple at first, but now can't see myself going back to laptop. Now I'm fully emerged - MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone

Go to the Apple store and follow some classes

Macs are pretty intuitive compared to Windows so you should be able to figure it out rather easily however, if you want to be able to cut that time, scheduled a one-to-one at an Apple Store.

Welcome to Apple world. Like others say, just play with it and you will learn.

I made the switch a few years ago, yes apple works different to MS.

But if you use regularly everyday you will get used to it. When you are struggling to do/find something, google it.

I still don't know exactly the file structure and how applications work at a level I do with MS, but have found I don't need to know. It just works.

For the assessment you're taking, if it's online via web browser perhaps use the same browser you had on the Dell?

I also switched this year and got a MacBook Air, best decision ever! You can figure most things out, but believe it or not the best thing that helped me was the good old "OS X for Dummies"! has a lot of the details that will help make the transition easier. Once you spend more time with it you'll wonder what took you so long to switch!!

thanks for all your advice! I knew you guys could come through for me! You always do! I'm finding that even after writing this post early this morning I'm becoming more comfortable with it. It really is a great machine, totally synched with my iPhone all by itself!
The YouTube videos are a great idea as well! I'm just a bit nervous doing something thats timed and official but I think I'll be fine. Thanks again to all of you.

Made the switch with total ease years ago. It is quite intuitive system and one that you can learn on own without classes in short period of time. Most questions you can search and find with ease. Congrats on your new MB Pro Ken!

Ken, all you need now is a iPad and you're all set. We're running a MacBook, two iPhones, two iPad minis and an iPod. We love them.
