Point of clarification on a 168000
So I have done a lot of research and found conflicting information about my watch. I know that it was made because Rolex transitioned from the 316 to the 904 steel but that the 3135 movement wasn't ready yet so that it they put in the 16800's 3035. I have also heard that none of the documents or boxes referenced it as a 168000 and only as a 16800 (mine did not come with papers so I can't confirm this) and that the extra zero was stamped on the case solely to show which ones had the new steel. Which is why my case back has 16800 on it.
OK, so now for my question..... I want to put one of the clear case backs on my Sub. I am kind of a geek and love being able to see the movement. So does anyone know if my 168000 has the same case as the 16610 or the 16800? Hard to imagine that Rolex would swap out their machinery just to upgrade it again 3 months later but who knows. Now for the super-geek question, is there anyway to tell or have someone figure out if my case back is made of the 904L steel or the 316? Would find it to be really neat if i have a 904L steel case back stamped with the older reference number. |

Hi.
Can't answer your two questions but am curious why you think your watch is a 168000 when it's marked 16800? fwiw, my 168000 has perfectly aligned 0's but I have seen others with an obviously added last 0 |

Is your case back stamped 16800 or 168000?

Case backs for the 16800, 168000 and 16610 are all the same.
