116710 blnr...

Is there anything special about this watch...or is it just a different coloured GMT

Same as the 116710LN apart from

Black/blue bicolour bezel
Dial text all white not GMT in green
24h hand is blue
Possible difference in lume colour depending on age of LN

Great watch and I've been after one for a while to compliment my 114060 & 116600 but with the 116500 release the 116710 may have to make way for the Daytona.

I just been offered one from my AD, never really looked at them but I'm thinking it'll be a great everyday watch...

I still lean towards my 116600 over the BLNR, I know it will be missed but if the 116500 lives up to the pics there's no contest I'll be having the 116600 & 116500 as my top two.

Don't get me wrong I absolutly appreciate the BLNR. I'm just a little surprised how HUGE the gap is between the love for the BLRN and the love for the LN. When you boil it down, it's 95% the same watch.

Honestly I like it just as much as the LN but when I got the call from my AD last year, had to get into the BLNR fray.

The Rolex BLNR is IMHO the best looking Rolex sports model out there, something about that Blue that makes the GMTC - which was already a great looking watch - something a bit special.

My AD called me earlier and has one which is mine if I want it, hadn't really looked at them but since I have just got my Daytonas, seems like it might be a decent everyday watch...

The LN has been around forever, and not everyone (e.g., me) loves the green accents. Rolex should go back to the white text and red hand of the 16710, for the black ceramic. Additionally, the black/blue was the first (of any watch from any brand) to feature a bi-color ceramic bezel. For that reason it's something of a marvel of modern production technology.

With that said, I don't love the look and would much prefer the new Pepsi. Given a SS Pepsi, or Coke, I think we would see the blue/black cool off quickly.

Yes, agreed Rolex does some great blues in their watches. Can't argue with that. I very much like the BLNR and I could see myself owning one someday. I'm just not convinced it's worth the premium. You can get an LN at such a great price compared with the BLNR. I suppose though that's the same with the DBlue.

Totally right about the marvel being the first bi-colored ceramic bezel. I remember first seeing it when it came out at Basel and really admiring it. I must be in the minority who still really digs the green on the LN. I also like how the green wording of GMT Master II matches the 24 hour hand. I would have liked to have seen the wording in blue for the BLNR also. I wonder why they went back to the traditional white? They could have left that for the BLRO since it's the traditional way it was done in the past, or saved it for a black bezel with a red 24 hour hand like you suggested.

Regardless, and I didn't mean to hijack this thread. BLNR is quite a fine watch 👍👍

I suspected when the blue/black came out, that they were going to a single dial for all the SS GMT2s. Sharing dials, dropping the green, and adding the red would be a cheap, and historically correct, way to update the old LN.

Seriously though, you should get what you like. If that happens not to be the "hot" thing, great - you can save some money. I happen to love the old white dial Explorer 2, a watch much unloved throughout its production run, and even somewhat still.

I don't know if it's special..but it was the first Rolex to make me want it with no reservations when it was first announced. So destiny had it I needed to add the watch. It's one myself and others can't take their eyes off of.

A dash of blue color on the BLNR is just like a blue chip on the stock.

Very Good everyday watch. I have a BLNR and a Daytona and love them equally but as an everyday watch, the former is the better one.

I had to have it so bad I flipped a 4-month old EXP Polar 42 for it. And although I miss the 42 Polar still, I love the BLNR. IMHO it is the most different in the Rolex GMT line up since its first production GMT-- BLNR doesn't have interchangeable bezel insert and its color combo is Rolex's only one (i.e., the BLRO's color combo was in the original GMT and GMT II).

For me it will still be more special than the newly released Daytona-C.

Even if I drool for the new Daytona, I still wouldn't flip my BLNR to get one. It's Blue accent makes it look very unique, especially when it changes it's shade of Blue depending on the lighting. I really also like the concept of the Black part of the BLNR's bezel representing night time and the Blue part representing day time. It really makes a lot sense that I feel that among the GMT watches, the BLNR represents it the most.

Bingo. Same watch, different colors. To me the "special" GMTs are the PM variants.
