Day Date variations

I've been a fan of the day date for a while, particularly the 118238 YG, black dial. The size, the look, the heritage all sings to me! the classic 36mm gold day date iconic rolex, its on the list for purchase at some point. As I do every morning I tinker with my wishlist on the rolex site, have a read about different models etc, I stumbled on the 118135, everose, black dial and black strap. This is a fantastic looking watch IMO, but it did make me wonder why there isn't a YG 118238 on black leather strap? surely I cant be the only one who thinks this would look good? Does anyone think this could be something rolex may produce in the future? Would anyone like to see this combination in the future? Let me know your thoughts, and of course, if you feel like sharing images of the watches mentioned if you have them, or just need an excuse to post pictures feel free. Always a pretty sight!

Think would look good; if you are only missing the black leather band you can easily find one to customize it as you like!

That would be my initial option. I just personally thought it was a look Rolex may have produced or IMO should start producing. Seeing as they make an everose combination.

the 36mm Rolex watches look perfectly proportioned, its actually uncanny how nice they look. I think they would easily be appropriate on my 6.75 inch wrist, however, i have grown acustom to the 40mm sports line. Anything smaller just looks too understated...funny thing is, my first Rolex was a 6694 oysterdate and i thought it looked perfect at 34mm!

Seems to me there were a lot more dial variations for the Day-Date in the past. Only Rolex knows why they have limited the varieties in recent years. Maybe it has something to do with their manufacturing process (now solely their own).

There is a reason for it but I've got no clue what it is. There were some outstanding dials from the past i.e. Stella , wood, lapis luzili, etc.

Apart from an aqua terra I had and flipped, all my watches are 41mm and above. Despite this, I have to agree the the 36mm proportions and its wrist presence tick all the boxes from me.

Very much agree about dial options being far less than a decade ago... Very much disagree about a strap DD... the bracelet, whether WG YG or Plat, makes the watch what it is

Have to agree Tom, the bracelet makes almost every Rolex, with the exception of Vintage.

Great point Brian... Yes, Vintage is in it's own category

I don't disagree about the bracelet being part of what makes it so iconic. Personal preference. I quite like the strap combo, as I said I would've like to have seen a YG black strap combo as I do quite like the strap set up. Given the choice, I would chose bracelet over strap though. I just wouldn't turn my nose up at the strap option.

Don't dismiss the 40mm DD. It doesn't look at all big on the wrist, certainly a lot sleeker than a Sub. Have to agree tat the President bracelet is a key part of the charm (and expense). The 36mm in Everose with a brown Rolex leather strap also looks very tasty.
As for the dials; it's not just the specific colours and decoration. Specific faces come with specific hands. Thus, if you want (say) that nice blue face, you have to have the Arabic markings, without lume. If you want silver face, then you get stick markings and lume. Take it or leave it.

36mm is a classic size, timeless really. Aside from my Planet Ocean, 40mm is the max on my 7.25 inch wrist.

X2 the day date and the president bracelet are inseperable imo.
