Just Arrived From ABC -- Highly Modified **Purists Beware**
I have been after this watch for a couple years now. My friend Markus(bondtoys) has done most of the mods before I purchased it, and I have been trying to buy it from him since its 'almost' completion probably 2 years ago. I always told him that if he ever decided to sell it, I was his man. He finally relented and sold the watch to me. What a gentleman folks.
This watch started off its life as a 16610LV. These are the Modifications: -- Shaved CGs by ABC Watchwerks --Black Bezel insert for 16610 --Rolex Crystal sans cyclops --Hands/Dial swap from 116610 And Lastly, ABC Watchwerks just installed fixed bars for me. I know that many may not care at all for the abomination, but I love it. It is a nod to the vintage MilSub and Big Crowns without using anything aftermarket. Altered beyond repair?? Yes, but still 100% Rolex. I think this one should work pretty well for diving.......... You can't tell too much from this last picture, but the Chromalight blue is quite different from the green PIP on the bezel insert. Would be nice if it matched, but I'm ok with the different colors........

Well....Actually....my friend Markus and ABC did most of the carving.
My only interjection was the fixed bars. I just bought it mostly modified. Markus had some vision, and I liked the idea of it.

Jason,
I absolutely love it. Especially the clean look and the blue lume. a few questions:
I love how your auto signature says "just say no to polishing" then you come out this this post...oh the irony. I've been running this 4060 as my daily wearer and would love to dabble in something like you did. |

Fantastic Jason. Great dive watch. The only thing I would have done differently is lug hole bars rather than fixed.

Yes, I made sure to emphasize to ABC that I wanted to be able to fit thick straps. These bars are farther from the case more like a 5513 Actually, the fact that my friend Markus had them shaved just gave me enough of an excuse to do fixed welded bars. I don't mind the CGs, but I also like it without. Not sure on the cyclops, but I am pretty sure it is a Daytona Crystal. Yea......say no to polishing. Oops. I guess it won't be polished.....starting NOW.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's neat and since its your watch you can do whatever. A little part of me is sad that there is one fewer LV in the world now. All that will ever be made have been made.

Hey it's your watch, but I would have started with any ol' 16610LN.

Would love to see this watch converted to a no date and modify the bezel to have the red triangle accent.
I don't know if I like the welded lugs...not on this watch because in no way does it resemble a milsub...but if you plan on keeping it on a nato (JB style) then that seems to work out well...though the big crown had lugs with through holes... All I know is if Rolex ever decided to make a tribute to the Big Crown it would be huge a huge success. Imagine a special ceramic bezel where they somehow integrate the red into the ceramic where the triangle goes...would be amazing. Heck this would be the model to finally make a platinum Submariner:) |

I like aesthetically what you have done.
If the LV had a black maxi dial, why did you swap to a ceramic sub dial & hands? I don't see the advantage or difference there? Also I would have agreed with your statement that the watch was still "100% Rolex" until you welded in springbars. Unless you obtained original Rolex weld in springbars then that would constitute an 'aftermarket' modification.
