1570 hairspring question
My 1680 dropped and stopped it from running, a day ruiner for sure.
I took it to my local repair, an excellent technician who is just getting his start here and had him look at it to see if it was indeed a staff, it was, and he pointed something out to me. The hairspring is gold, not blued or steel. Is this an after market hairspring or did Rolex use gold (colored) ones? Thanks |

Thanks
Actually, the only thing I'm trying to find out is whether Rolex used a gold colored hairspring.
The only ones I've ever seen were either blued or steel white but I'm limited to a couple of dozen I've personally dealt with over a few dozen years and I don't necessarily remember accurately. Enjoyed the article nonetheless. |

I have seen quite springs over the years which were "slightly tinted" a golden colour. Remember these were created at a time when Rolex relied upon external suppliers for hairsprings. Unless it has been obviously modified I would expect it to be original.
