grey mkts purchases
I have never purchased anything grey market or online with respect to "high end" watches. What are your thoughts on using places like Jomashop, maybe not for super $$$$ but watches in the $2k-$4k range (ie like a Tudor Black Bay or SS Datejust)? At least if anything wrong your committed funds is low.
Thoughts? |

Hard to say...I bought my Speedy Pro new from WatchMaxx and had no issues but have not had to deal with anything service related. That is more likely where issues may occur, on the slim chance that you need it.

Why risk it when there are other avenues?

Have you seen all the complaints here about Jomashop? Please use the SEARCH function.
Then consider another place for purchasing.

I wouldn't buy anything over 500 from Jomashop. To many issues with Jomashop and when something does go wrong a lot of time it doesn't get resolve properly.
I reccomend buying from one of the trustd seller on here instead. |

I bought from a grey seller couple of times and also from an AD. The experience of buying from an AD far outweighs that from buying from a grey providing you get a decent price.

Pick a watch... then contact reputable sellers here... ie. DavidSw or Ponycar350 (only 2 I've dealt with myself) and see if they have it or can get it.

I feel it is better to do your homework on the watch first. Then talk to several AD's and push fo a better deal. Always take into account if you are about to travel overseas and look at prices there before you go. Sometimes the saving is not worth the hassle later in ownership.

I've had all good experiences with grey market and trusted sellers. There are good and bad dealers. Do your homework. "Grey" doesn't necessarily mean bad. It's been said many times here...."Buy the seller." The hunt can be as much fun as the kill.

These days, everyone has an online storefront so I have no qualms about an online transaction as long as I know the seller

Check out Capetown Diamond down in Roswell, GA. If you're reluctant to purchase used or LNIB from the forum they are a good alternative to new from AD.

Give DavidSw a shot. Heard a lot of good things about him. A couple of friends have used his services. Nothing but great things. I am in the middle of my first transaction with him.

Very tough on a first transaction to wire transfer Thousands of dollars to a stranger. When you get the piece a couple daysater and it is nicer than you ever dreamed it would be, you wonder why you never went Grey before. Once you go Grey, never go back. Well something like that. Try a trusted seller. You'll be happy.

Bought an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra on Jomashop. No complaints. But also, no issues so far. So I can't say for sure how they resolve issues.

Trusted sellers here are fine for me. I've done the AD route and it was fine, too.
Here's my calculus - if it's a lifetime gift then AD especially to a spouse, offspring, parent or sibling. If for my own use, no need for the AD - but you must buy the seller first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ponycar350 is as honest as the day is long. Absolutely can't go wrong with sending him $$ before you get your watch. Did a deal with him last month and couldn't have gone smoother. Great communication back and forth and had the watch in a day after he received the funds. It was fun to give a Rolex for a graduation gift!
