Great story, enjoyed reading it!!! My father left me two watches, a Benrus Wristalarm from the 50's, and a gold Hamilton his parents gave him when he graduated from either high school, or college, in the 40's. They've both been overhauled several times and will never be sold. I try to wear them on Father's Day (if in town), the Hamilton to Church, and the Benrus the rest of the day. This tradition has taken a back seat the past two years. My son presented me with a Quartz Seiko while at our cottage on Fathers Day a couple of years ago. He found it while out with my wife at a garage sale. It actually cleaned up really well. Had it serviced and now my 5 year old calls it my " Summer Vacation" watch.

Here's some pictures, really appreciate the feedback😃 Just for clarification, there is no dollar amount that could be placed on this watch. It's in the Herman family for the long run.
Have a great and safe weekend fellas!

Great story. I love the history and family connection. My watch story isn't nearly as cool.

I wasn't into watches growing up. My dad has no interest at all and none of my relatives could afford anything luxurious.

As I started my career, two of my coworkers were "watch guys". One was a Rolex guy (Bluesy and YM) while the other guy was into Breitlings. I decided early on that I was going to use watch purchases to mark milestones in my life. Then as I met my future wife her father owned a beautiful submariner (a red 1680, plus other Rolexes) and I was hooked on watches. My first "nice" watch was a Tag Heuer Link Automatic to mark my first commission check (big milestone at my company), the second (1.5 years later) was a Breitling Blackbird at 25 to celebrate that I was going to be a father (was married 6 months prior but couldn't stomach a watch purchase with paying for a wedding). Then over the next 8 years I had achieved many different milestones (MBA, 2nd daughter, promotion, etc) which I would have liked to celebrate with watches but, as a young father and husband, I prioritized other things ahead of my personal need (wife's desire to be a stay at home mom, college funds for my children, purchasing a new home in a neighborhood with great schools, gifts for my wife and amazing mother to my children). This year, at the same time as I received another promotion, I hit a huge financial milestone I had been working towards since I was a kid. It was time for my first Rolex to mark both of these achievements. I bought a BLNR for myself and 6 weeks later to celebrate 10 years after our first date I bought a Roman Rhodium Datejust for my wife. Having each of these watches on my wrist reminds me of these events and I wouldn't trade/sell any of them for anything.
