There wasn't any comment about speed changing. The fences would have probably slowed it somewhat. The collision with the pole was at some level of unknown speed because he car rotated counter-clockwise before coming to rest. I'll get the full narrative posted when I'm back at my laptop.
The homicide report will have more data from accident reconstruction specialists and any data from the black box. The Feds are now involved and Tesla is fully cooperating so expect that to be very detailed. However, those extra layers of assistance can slow the normal 90 day interval for a final report. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edit: Attached a screenshot of the narrative. Again, V01 is the Truck and V02 is the Tesla... . . . .

I for one can't wait for driverless cars. People are far worse drivers than computers!
The autopilot isn't a true driverless car yet. The driver always needs to be alert at this point. In 5 years, maybe we will be closer to 100% autonomous. The way I read this article it sounds like the driver was relying on the autopilot and not paying attention. I mean he drove into a sideways tractor trailer. You would see that coming if you were paying attention is my thought. We should embrace this tech, not be scared by it. It could solve many of our infastructure problems and greatly reduce accidents/deaths.

I edited my post above to include the narrative from the trooper.
Agree that some distraction might have been a factor for the Tesla driver but I can't come to that conclusion yet. We need to know the speed of the Tesla in the minute before impact and the braking (if any). With ABS we often don't see long skid marks like old technology. But the black box should give us that.

Unfortunately, it takes tragedies like this to advance technology and someone has to be the trail blazer.

Sad tragedy
But everyday, many people from "accidents" caused by humans There's a saying to the effect that to err is human, but to really f'up, you need a computer. Ultimately, technology will make road travel safer, but there will be unfortunate incidents, some spectacular, along the way |
