What’s the deal with a watch left in for warranty repair? Do you pay “insurance” for the AD/Boutique to ship it to Clearwater, and/or back again?
If there’s no payment in that scenario, then I can’t see how purchasing requires it – and presuming that AP has a contract which the Boutiques and APSC use together, then I’d be highly surprised if "insurance" is anywhere near $450.

Case in point, I’ve just done a mock UPS delivery (non-contract, non collection) from the NY Boutique to 94126, covered to $40K, and the quickest option is $477, for a 3lb box 12x6x5, by 8am.
I doubt FedEx is going to be much different.

I'm not doubting what you're saying at all - but that price seems absolutely crazy!!!!!!!
So, basically - whenever Clearwater Service Center tells a customer to send a watch in (I've never done it myself but assume they send a pre-paid label for their Warranty Work customers?? - I mean that's only right!)
But APSC is paying $500 each way?!?!?!?? So anytime one of our esteemed members here sends a watch in, it costs Clearwater $1000 for a round trip?!??
Wow....

PS. I will leave you guys with some quotes (not from me, another site) to ponder, that I have learned of as of approx a week ago! Really makes you think!!

"If you ship your watch via FedEx it is NOT insured. Both UPS and FedEx exclude watches under their insurance clauses.

It matters not if they accept the shipment. Go read the websites for UPS and FedEx. You'll see they specifically say they will not insure watches.
So, having said that I'll tell you I ship my watches via FedEx all the time. However they are shipped, not under my account number, but under a third party shipper's account. That third party is actually the insurer. I use G4S Logistics. Essentially they are taking the risk.
Make sense?

However, For the sake of being accurate FedEx and UPS actually WILL insure a watch but they LIMIT the maximum coverage to $1,000 which as you know is nothing compared to the actual value!"

Now, I myself Therefore summarize:
- it seems the BEST options may be either Ferrari Group Express, which has an NYC office - Or Brinks Logistics. Both are used for diamonds, gold, etc.... Has anyone here used either company?? I have not.... Cheers gents!

The quoted cost will be markedly reduced for a contract, which AP undoubtedly has.
Chances are they use a brokerage, who will secure a rate based on volume shipped globally, and due to the value being transported, will have insurance included, even if that comes from a separate 3rd party rather than provided by the courier company.
The contract rate will be drastically lower than the one-off price my quote would cost, so for the member to be asked to stump up “insurance coverage” is a severe slap in the face.

Regarding APSC paying $1K on shipping for a warranty repair – no chance, especially as the box/packaging they use is only big enough for the watch itself.
I doubt the AD/Boutique would ship the larger and heavier wooden box the customer may’ve brought in, as it’s unnecessary – the SC is only interested in receiving the watch, not the whole kit and caboodle – so smaller and lighter means lower cost.

Staff at the NYC boutique was very nice when I went in there, although they all unanimously encouraged be to send me ROO into APSC for an issue that apparently was not an issue. Only took two visits in 3 months for APSC to communicate to me it wasn't actual issue.

Ok I'm a little bitter. They were very nice in person though.

I had a good experience. Was wearing jeans and a t shirt and am 31. They let me try on several but I was surprised by the lack of selection. I would expect them to have one of every model at their flagship store.

Anyway I bought online and saved 4k plus tax.

I was there late last year. I had the same experience. Rude.. No... but not too interested in helping look at watches. I got the impression that they were there more to supervise than to sell.

Such a boring place and rude boutique. Been there twice to purchased a straps on vacation trip. The salesperson didn't even want to do a business and asked all the nonsense questions. Maybe I weren't wear a fancy suit?

I go there for strap changes or if I'm in the area to see the new pieces.

Always had a good experience.

Usually Selin does my strap changes with a smile.

I was there this winter and had very good service. They showed me the boutique only RO Chrono in yellow gold with a blue dial. This one was out of stock but he had tone in the back that was already sold. With all of that, he still let me try it on. I thought the service was friendly and helpful.

Went there this last weekend for the first time. Was helped by Danny. Very attentive and incredibly helpful. Tried on a couple different pieces and compared and contrasted my 15400 to them. My wife asked a couple questions and he was more than happy to answer them, as well. It was a little busy, but he took his time and made us feel as though we were the only people in the boutique.

The selection was smaller than what I would have thought, but given how few pieces are produced a year and the demand, that may make sense. We had visited the Rolex boutique around the corner a little earlier and they had every model (with the exception of the new Daytona) and then some, so the AP selection seemed small, but it was still fun spending time there. Definitely dropping by the next time I'm in town.

They've been closed every single time I've tried to go there. Because of this, I've never had an AP on my wrist. Thumbs-down for never being open!

I too dress casually but from Dior, Prada..... And also am quite polite, usually does the trick but not always, if the salesperson is an idiot nothing to do, good salespeople are the ones who understand that it's not how you are dressed which is important and serve all clients the same way...

From the Paris Boutique and le Brassus and back for a cracked case I was never asked anything about any insurance...

Haha, no...I do go on weekends, but on days that I visit all of the other boutiques in the area. They're all open, but the AP boutique on 57th is always closed. Maybe they just close earlier than the others, I need to go there first instead of last.

Well for the time being they have a temporary boutique set up while they remodel the main location. It's still on 57th just smaller and less grand for now.

Saw the diver chronos and ceramic diver still on display. Apparently they are still running out the inventory.

They still have ceramic divers on sale??? Would have thought that they were all sold by now... Black or white ones?

Well I would guess so, it's not a museum and a boutique should only display what they sell, but maybe they keep a few references which are discontinued for decoration...

Not anymore! I was just there today and specifically asked to see the ceramic diver, but it was gone, never to return.

Your man Jonny showed me the SS Diver, I fell instantly in love with it. Definitely my next watch, as soon as I save up enough pennies.

Back on topic - the boutique staff were great, very attentive and nice. Everything about AP is impressing me more and more.
