What's with the rough-cut sticky things on the warranty card?

Just passing on messages from other members regarding this point. I'm also a little curious.

Clarification: I had a question raised about the tape being used as the date printed on the warranty card. The watch was purchased from AFI Jewelers in June 2015 online. AFI Jewelers is printed on the warranty card. I didn't want the serial number included in the pictures. If you are interested send me a text and I will send a photo of the entire card. The original owner confirms that it was delivered to him this way. I took this watch as partial trade on an Explorer II. Thanks.
