Do you wear gold jewelry with your rolex?

Hi members of RF. I am here to seek your humble opinion.

Im a young asian chap (below 30) , co owner of a family import - export business. Meets many new clients from all walks of life and businesses daily.

Being an Asian, i was quite into gold jewelries like gold chains, gold bracelets, wearing dragon design rings and stuff like that. From where i came from its a symbol of status and ego. Im being straight forward. I use to collect gold jewelries and wear it everyday.

I personally own a Two Tone Date Just and a Two tone 16613 blue Submariner. Overtime i notice my sense of luxury grew more towards watches. Since i brought my blue TT sub, i stopped wearing my gold bracelets and rings because i find it too over exaggerating and way too flashy especially for someone my age. I also had the mentality that wearing a solid expensive watch is way better then a bunch gold jewelry hanging on my body because i prefer looking simple and humble but at the same time "hey look, thats a bad ass watch" . At the same time i feel i look more professional especially in my line of job and social life.

Example i have met clients who dress simply but wears a $30,000 gold daytona. When i went to clubs or bars with friends, the dude sitting at the VIP area drinking the most expensive wine dosent wear tons of gold jewelry, dressed in a Polo T and bermudas but has full gold GMT Master with Jade dial on his wrist.

My job dosent need me to wear a suit. I dress almost casually everyday, T shirt and berms sometimes jeans. I dont work in the office. Im a outdoor type of guy. I even considered selling most of my gold jewelries and get another rolex watch, maybe a Explorer 2 with Rubber B.

So what do you think defines luxury? Wearing a crap load of gold jewelry looking like Scarface or an expensive watch.

I am of the opinion that a nice watch is the only jewellery a man needs. I think gold bracelets are excessive and detract from the beauty of a nice watch. I have occasionally worn a class ring and expect that if I get married one day I would wear my wedding ring ;).

Nice name my friend! And the Answer is if you want to be professional, you need to have a watch that exemplifies who you are. As Men, we only really have one accessory to flaunt, and that is the Watch!

But, I do also wear a few Solitares, just to have fun. I like the way the sun bounces of it's perfect symmetry...

I'm Asian as well and agree with the op about good being a status thing in most Asian cultures. I have a two tone 16233 but will usually wear my steel 116234 as my go to watch. I like to wear my two tone on special occasions but will wear a simple gold ring with it. But that's only in settings wear I know other men will dress similarly. Imo unless you're in a setting like that, just enjoy your watch as it is. I think it's a lot more classy elegant if you go simple but pair everything wisely.

My wedding band when the wife insists. Generally the only jewelry I wear is a nice watch.

I think it's tough for me to say, since it really might be such a cultural divide. I have heard gold chains are still quite a status symbol in many parts of Asia. My wife is from Japan and still loves yellow gold jewelry on men, and really thought I should've bought a TT Rolex.

I feel like in the US, it's pretty rare to see someone wearing gold jewelry, and too much bling is generally frowned upon.

Yes thats how it works in Asian countries. The thicker your gold chain is, the more "macho" you are in terms of status. Besides, gold jewelry here are made in 916 carat so its bright yellow unlike 18k or 14k which is quite common in america or European countries. I have a decent 50 gram gold chain that i got as a birthday gift from my mum and i will never disregard it.

Old school Asians dig gold jewellery - especially yellow gold. Nowadays the kids aren't so much into it. Take a stroll in central HK and it'll be a rare sighting. However, IMHO mainland Chinese are still quite into gold jewelry.

So it depends on where you live and your background.

In the society i live in, everyone is into watch as status now. Gold jewelry are considered old school and out dated, only for old people. Many youngsters now days are wearing luxury watches like Panerai and sport rolex like subs and GMT.

For me, a wedding ring, a Rolex, and a fine gold chain with a tiny cross hidden under my shirt is best. If I'm in questionable circumstances, the watch is a black plastic one with a black rubber strap.

I was taught that flashy is tacky.

Not to mention the dreaded metal on metal scratches u can get if a bracelt and a watch are worn on the same wrist....which I have seen pictures of people doing so.

With my watch I wear my diamond wedding ring and a gold chain that I have had on for 30+ years. I wear Jewelry because I like it and don't care what anyone else thinks.

IWC had an advertisement many years ago.

It was a picture of one of their watches. Maybe the Big Pilot and it has a caption that read "Men wear their jewels on their wrist."

Terms like "status" and even "luxury" make me cringe. Why do you feel the need to advertise your status? Some of the wealthiest people in the world are very understated and unpretentious. In my opinion, you can't buy taste....or class, for that matter. The tasteful approach for a man is to wear a wedding ring and a nice watch, in my opinion. Of course, I don't care for flashy or showy watches either. All this is my opinion....ymmv.

I wear a gold watch most days and no other coloured jewellery. I wore a brown leather bracelet for a while that I think hippied down my brown dial DD2 I have designer belts and caps but often wear cheap T-shirts and tracky bottoms that are comfy, always keep them guessing I say.

Just a watch and wedding band (never gold) for me. Heck, even my wedding band is only 2mm thick. Granted, I own a business in the very casual business of TV production, so I wear a t-shirt and jeans every single day.
