It's part of what makes Datejust collecting so much fun, the diversity of dials and bezels and bracelets.

My 1601 YG above, definitely has a 'dad' vibe, and there isn't anything wrong with that, it's supposed to feel that retro/classic in that configuration, it's part of its charm.

On that model, smooth for sure. Smooth works better with an oyster strap, while fluted works better on jubilee.

in most models I like smooth but the DJ2 I think the fluted is much better.

My dad didn't care about watches and my sons don't care about watches.

I'm going to need to adopt a WIS so I can leave my Rolex collection to someone, anyone, who will appreciate them.

I don't completely agree with this, I think the smooth bezel looks good with all light dials. I think the color of the dial also impacts the bezel choice.

I agree. In retrospect, I was being a bit binary.

There is wiggle room with a DJ when it comes to bezels and bracelets, but I stand by my views on the dials, especially Roman and dark ones.

Really depends on the watch IMO. I prefer the smooth bezel of the platinum DDII but the fluted bezel of the DD40 in RG. For a DJ, gotta vote fluted.
