Gibson or Fender Guitar

Gibson Les Paul
Fender Stratocaster

With its hollow body and amazing features, Gibson has been known as the most recognized guitar since the beginning of the guitar era! Used by countless legendary guitarist and probably made more famous mainly by Jimmy Page ( not to mention others )! On the other hand, Fender, with its light weight and 5 switches that could take any guitarist in creating different sounds is another guitar that is being handled by legendery axemen as well!Which one do you think is the one? Gibson or Fender?

Huge Fender fan... Nothing sings better then a Stratocaster on a clean channel (tube amp) with some reverb!! I have an American Standard Deluxe that I could never part with. My passion is so deep, that my little girl is now taking guitar lessons at the Fender Museum here in Corona, Ca.

As a bass player I voted Fender. Love great tone no matter where it comes from. The older the better.

I love both guitars for their unique sounds, but the Fender Stratocaster is probably the easiest guitar to play. The strat will always be associated with Hendrix, Clapton and SRV, arguably the greatest players in R&R history.

I voted for the Strat. The Gibson is a complete different instrument, originally a guitar that found its way into Jazz type music. Both are solid body instruments, so even the Les Paul has little to do with the first amplified acoustic models.

Rory Gallagher was a blues guitarist who's raw and often autobiographic songs just bring the Strat alive, that's why I voted for the Strat.

Those two guitars are so different that it all depends on your preference as to which is better. Both are great for blues and rock but the Les Paul is better for Jazz (Les Paul is a renowned Jazz artist).

I like the Strat because it's very comfortable to play and there are songs that can only be played with the Strat tone which is bright, clear and jangly. I'm more of a Les Paul guy though because I like the tone more - I also like humbuckers more than single-coils (strats come with single-coils standard). What I don't like though are it's poor ergonomics. It's slab-bodied, has a poorly located input jack, has straight edges (strats are rounded), and is very heavy.

Gibson Les Paul is my guitar, so I go with what I got.

I can't play guitar, but I am happy trying to play. I don't know enough to make any intelligent well informed evaluation.

Vintage baby!
Either brand will rock depending on the amp, settings, and the talent of the player.

Play both and tend to lean toward my Strat or Tele. The Les Paul sounds great right out of the box with any amp. Strats can sound thin unless paired with the correct amp. I use a Fender Super Reverb with the Strat.

I love the new fender strats with the S1 switch. I love and have the Paul Reed Smith as a humbucker guitar.

I own both guitars! There are days I tell myself that Gibson is the best guitar ever whenever I play it! But after picking the Strat up, I always end up figuring out whether Gibson was really the best guitar ever made! Can't really decide which one is the best! So far, Fender Guitar is on the lead at the poll!

Great poll! I know a lot of TRF members like to pick a guitar!! Of course, not all LPs are hollow ($$$) - then there's SGs (Solid Guitars) as another poster pointed out as a favorite. Trivia that's new(er) to me: the studio solo on Stairway was recorded on a Telecaster.

I like 'em all! Gibson, Fender, PRS, Ricks, Martins, new/old handmade, homemade - I wish I had the money, time and space for one of each!!

I did not know D&C was recorded on a tele! Cool - thank you too!

I voted for Gibson - but I was really torn. Many of my guitar heros are Fender players actually. Last Tuesday I drove up to see The Police in Philly - and was diggin' Stings old bass and Andy's Tele (and Strat too)!! My ears are still ring-g-g-g-ging!! LOL!

I've been playing off and on for a dozen years or so (mostly off!) - but I've been really studying music and guitars the past couple years or so. It's a great hobby really.

Here's my old SG seen with an LP lurking in the background (I need to get a family pic up - with my strats and all too):

Thanks! That's an '86 LP Std.. It's my main squeeze, and a Craig's List bargain (IMO) - I got it last year. It's got a ton of crunch with some sort or Seymour Duncan neck P/U. The SG is somewhat of a case queen - I've had it about 28 years or so (still have original hardware for it). What's your preference (gibby, fender -if you have one)?

I like them both! But I tend to gravitate towards my Strat. But I also like my PRS McCarty and my Gretsch. What's important is that you play as much as you can. It's the best stress reliever I know!
