This is probably the oldest place in town. A small (12/15 ft wide) locale nestled downtown. Opened in....

Story says that the name was Alaska, but after a bad storm, only AL letters survived.

Classic breakfast: machacado con huevo (dry beef, eggs, refried beans...tortillas and fresh salsa)
Wiki: Machaca con huevo, Machacado con huevo or Huevos con machaca, is a dish which consists of shredded dry beef that is scrambled with eggs. Its name means "shredded with eggs" in Spanish. The shredded dry beef, carne seca or "machaca", is said to have originated in the town of Monterrey, about an hour north of Monterrey, Mexico.[1][2] The early settlers in the area air-cured beef so that it would be preserved.[3][4][5][6] According to one legend, the dish was invented in the 1920s by Fidencia Quiroga, who was known locally as "Tía Lencha" (Aunt Lencha).[1][7][8] Although there may not be much evidence that she had actually invented the dish, there is much evidence that she had popularized the dish when she began to serve the dish in her restaurant to hungry construction workers who were building the nearby Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway in 1928.[9] As a result of the great popularity of this dish, a major manufacturer of the shredded dried beef that is used in this dish is named after her, Productos Alimenticios Tia Lencha SA.[10][9] This is a traditional dish in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León that is usually eaten at breakfast but could be eaten at other meals as well. |

A great diner. People show up with the local newspaper in their hands. No iPads. Just good food in a very relaxed environment.
Something special about AL: it opened in 1940. And is open 24/7. It has been open for over 76 years. Continously. Main doors do NOT have locks. In my book, if a place has been open for that long, they have been doing something RIGHT. |

Wow, I haven't had any pan dulce Ina long time. I loved it as a kid. I bet the aromas of it freshly baked was awesome!
The machaca and eggs looks yummy as well. Like you said, 76 years being open they must be doing something right. Thanks for sharing. Ok, I ready for breakfast now. |

Very cool place! I wish there was something that good here. But then I would be even heavier than I already am! Cheers, Gerardo.
