I firmly believe that every collection needs a Ceramic rolex, the ease of use, the quick and reasonable service times makes it a great watch to wear when you may not be able to 100% ensure the watch will be safe and scratch free.
As for the collection - Cant really comment till I know what the incoming will be

Spending £8-12K (minus any VAT refund) for a beach/sea/holiday watch seems a bit daft.
Personally, I'd throw a few grand at a Chopard LUC Sport or Pro One, and if it looks a bit sorry for itself after a few years, so what. A Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine is another option for under £4K. |

I agree you need a "beater" but is a Ceramic Daytona the best for this over something like a Sub?? Then again a Daytona is cheap amongst those mentioned in your collection! :)
With such a classy collection I would have thought Aquanaut might be your equivalent of a posh "beater" with the composite strap? PS - Will be interesting to see after time if your feel necessary for both 5712 and 5711 in a collection of 5 watches. Im starting to look at my first Patek, the thought of my Sub, Daytona and a 5711 (or 5712) with a Aquanaut is starting to appeal to me for a 4 watch collection. |

I fear if I buy something I like not very much I won't wear it, while I'm sure I'll wear a Daytona on vacation in Asia for the beach and pool and other activities. Quote:
Can't stand a sub on the wrist more than 40 minutes... About the 5711/12 my Favorite is the 12 but love the other as well, and having both means that the 5712 slot will be decided with the 5711, so less wear on the 12, also in some cases I like a clean blue dial with date in a window, we will see what happens, but they are my 2 favorite SS watches |

I think I missed the thread of your 5712 shots, I apologize (may have been while I was taking a break from TRF).
You are always advocating people post more wrist shots. Look forward to more shots of your amazing 5712 and AP--both pieces people always want to see shot of--don't be so modest Excited to see the Aquanaut make it's way into your rotation in a few weeks--September??? (let's work on those incoming shots--RG will look great in the sun). |

Anyways so many guys post and have posted such awesome pics of these 2 watches that compared to my crappy ones I am a little ashamed, so usually I post incoming, and very rarely after that.. So crappy pic warning for those faint of heart. Yeah I'm excited to get some RG soon, have been wanting a RG on rubber for quite a while  |

The best shot is the last one with the toe in the shot--those I'm pretty good at taking as well. You're even enabling me on the ceramic 42... |

Funny how the 5712 doesn't look so small compared to the AP...
To be honest only these 2 make an awesome duo IMO, but I wanted a 5-6 piece collection, once I have them I don't think I will want to add any, these will basically be my favorite watches at a comfortable price zone for me, ok the last one is outside of my comfort zone on that matter, costs more than all the others combined, but really wanted one and could get one, until June I am looking at pics of it everyday, well the one that looks the closest to what it will be like... |

You know that I took them at 5:30 in the morning in my bathroom right? With my IPhone So the light, quality and toes in the pic are all natural and normal I just took others, still not very good compared with many other members' pics of these two pieces, Benlee made the best of the AP IMO, his pics were amazing, but will still be better than last night's pics Quote:
Anyways most members say you need a Rolex as beater, my days of surfing and windsurfing are way gone, so at 45 I'm more into softer sports, and a Daytona should handle that without any problem... In any case the white dial Daytona does look great and I think it is very cool to have one in the collection and be able to use it mainly when I go on vacation, if it get scratched, damaged or in worse case stolen, I won't be happy at all, but won't particularly loose a lot of sleep over it, while I clearly would for the AP and my PP's |

I think the ceramic Daytona would be a nice addition; actually a very nice "beater". Looking forward to seeing your big independent incoming.
BTW, are you adding a SS 5711? Do you think it will be redundant with your 5712? |

SS, and no they are my 2 favorite S watches, they will be rotated and even though I have a preference for the 5712, I will be very happy to wear it I think, I tried diversity and understood better get what I like the most

I would scrap the Daytona and I am getting one in the next few months but with the PCLs I personally don't see it as a beater or beach watch. The sand alone will scratch the heck out of the center links. The Diver case cracking was just a fluke thing and AP did right by You as they should. Enjoy that beauty and beat the crap out of it. I wouldn't waste $12,400 on a Daytona that will take a back seat to many of your pieces. Just my 2¢

The 39mm explorer 1 at 39mm you mean? It's nice but to be honest I think I would prefer adding the extra cash and getting a Daytona, I mean the new daytona with white dial is a stunner, if I would not be totally in awe over AP and PP and didn't have such incomings, as well as a cool duo, it is the kind of piece which could hold the central place in a good Rolex collection, the Explorer is nice but IMO nothing special, it won't give me any special pleasure to wear it, while I will clearly have pleasure wearing the Daytona on vacation, it's for me the good balance between a watch I won't baby and that will still bring me joy

As a new owner of a new 5712 (again), I have to say that it is not redundant with my 5711r.
After owning many PP, and specifically the 5980 in rose twice, I prefer the thinner profile of the 5712 and 5711. JPS

Congrats way in advance on the independent. I'm with some of the others here - I'd use the AP for beach, vacations. But hey if you want the chrono for that good price, go for it and congrats again.

I think all the PP and AP sports model watches are suitable for beach vacations. But it really depends on how you feel about scratches.
I think a Daytona C would be a nice addition if you think you will wear it. Otherwise it will just be another watch in the collection. If you are on the wait list at the AD, you don't have to decide on the watch until you get the call. Even if you decide to pass on the watch, the AD will have no problem selling it to someone else. So I would enjoy your current watches and see how you feel about the Daytona when it becomes available. |

Yes I think you need to put yourself limits, when I will have 5 which is next June as I have 3 incomings until then, and I want a watch I will need to decide which watch has to go, if I love them too much to let them go, then there will be no incoming, I had 10 watches at one point and only wore 3, ok they weren't as cool as the ones I have and will have, mostly Pams and Rolex plus a few others, they were never worn and in the bank, I think with the watches I will have; AP CE diver, PP 5712, PP 5711, PP 5167R and one from a very small independent, a rotation is possible, all are watches I really love and thought about for a long time before buying, and I think 2 per year is reasonable

The 5712 is super nice! Sometimes I am tempted to sell what I have, get one of those and call it a day.
To your question, a Daytona would fit in well. I prefer black though.
