Icon9 My 359 is unwell

I had to leave my 359 at the Panerai boutique yesterday because it's not very well. I've only worn it twice since picking it up; I rotate my watches usually for a week at a time and set them for the week on a Sunday night (it wasn't the 359's turn but I wanted to wear it again). The second time I went to wear it a few weeks ago after we came back from a short trip, it kept stopping three seconds (literally) after I set the time. I got it going on the Monday morning and never worried after that but I messaged my man at the boutique as a precaution and he said to bring it in. I never had a chance to take it in that week because I was horrifically busy at work and then then had to fly down to Brisbane. I took it in yesterday and it had run down because I've been away for a week. He wound it and then set it and it stopped on two consecutive occasions. Then when he managed to get it going, it was running slow.

Needless to say, he's absolutely mortified and is taking it personally. Obviously it's not his fault but we've built up quite a relationship during my hunt and subsequent purchases and I guess he feels responsible. Anyhoo, the 359 is going to their watch maker for a look and then they'll decide what to do. My guy is going to push for a new piece for me because this shouldn't happen to a brand new watch. A new one would be nice but I'd be equally happy if mine comes back with a report telling me what was wrong and that it's been sorted. The customer service manager was in the boutique yesterday and she came over for a chat and she also said that this sort of thing should not happen, never mind on a watch less than a month old (as it was at the time).

I'm disappointed, sure, but I'm not at all worried because I know that I'm in good hands and that it'll be sorted. I'm just a bit cheesed off because I could be without my watch for four to six weeks and I wanted to wear it back down to Australia next week.

I'll keep you posted as matters develop.

It's quite strange really because when I've read some of the horror stories on here about people's watches (usually Rolex) that go pear-shaped, I've found myself thinking 'if that was me, I'd......'. Now it's my turn, I'm completely relaxed about it. I have complete faith in the boutique here. It's just annoying that I'd they go down the repair route then I'll be without it for about six weeks. Hey-ho, could be a lot worse

I'd be ok with them servicing it. A good mate of mine in the IT business only buys refurbished computer hardware. New stuff has the perfunctory basic checks to see if it's ok before selling and, in most cases, it usually is. However, when a new product goes tits up it gets pulled apart, re-assembled with any dodgy parts replaced and then it's checked, double checked, triple checked and then checked again. In other words, there's far more attention to detail so they don't get burned again.

In fact, having them strip my 359 down and re-assemble it after a major service would be like having the engine of my Blackbird have a Tony Scott blueprint. I would be more than ok with that.

Given my 359 has an issue as a brand new watch, I would expect the same attention to detail. Providing they do it right and give me a report of what was wrong and what they've done to fix it, happy days.

I can't speak for every Panerai boutique and AD but if my watch was to go tits up, I'd rather it be here than anywhere else. The service I received from these guys during my two months of hunting (which involved near weekly visits) was like nothing I have ever known from any other retail establishment on this earth.

They also know that I'll be buying from them again in the not too distant so there's another incentive to get it right

rvd....the 9000 movement has had some 'issues', once serviced you should be fine. meant no offense, love all 4 of my panerai's. good luck

Good to know that a service will sort it if that's what they decide to do. I might even be able to use it as a lever on my next purchase
