Flew to Cancun last month, must have gone through several checkpoints..NEVER took my DeepSea off. I just politely showed the officer, wiggled my wrist, and he waved me through.
Same in Cancun coming back and also in connecting flight back.

I never know what I'm going to get when flying international. I take my watch off and put it with my wallet/phone in a zipper-closed carry-on through the X-Ray. I figure it's more safe there than if they make me take it off and put it in a dirty plastic bowl.

I put myself in my carry on bag, and then my Rolex walks through the metal detector on its own

I've taken about a 100 flights with a real watch on and only once was i forced to take one off(Submariner), which was in Cancun. Needles to say I was highly annoyed; nothing happened but have been in that airport many times before and never had to remove a timepiece

The people manning the security check points at where I am based always, always ask everyone to remove their watches. If I am told to do so, I will not argue and will put it in my carry on. Never in the tray.

But if my shirt covered the watch, I will walk through the scanner with the watch on and it has never set off the scanner.
