Rolex Air King Question

I'm not that familiar with Air Kings, so a question for anyone who has knowledge/experience with them ....

Did stainless steel Air Kings (model 5500) in the 1960s-'70s ever come with this champagne dial with yellow gold markers and hands? I always thought that yellow gold markers/hands with any Rolex model were only ever on two-tone or all-gold versions.

There are several vintage Air Kings that can be found online with this configuration, but I wonder if dials have been switched from two-tones or all-gold versions into stainless steel cases.

Any help is much appreciated!

Anyone? I want to make sure this is not a Franken-watch with an incorrect dial in a stainless steel case.

I'd have the same question with vintage Datejusts: Did stainless steel models ever have dials with yellow-gold hour markers and hands?

Im not as much versed in the old AK's, but I can tell you I've seen that exact combo many many times over the years. It would lead me to believe original to the watch, but don't quote me on that.

Can't quite see from your photo but the hands look like the blunter Oyster Perpetual hands rather than the Air King Hands.

we have seen quite a few SS 5500 airkings as well as 6694 precisions equipped originally with gold dials and hands. have also seen some SS datejusts come from the factory that way. i think they look great as they really have alot of eye appeal.
