How can I tell if my cyclops has AR?

I have an M-serial 16610 LV Sub. I've read on the forum that Rolex started putting AR under the cyclops on this watch in its latter days. Mine might have it, but I can't tell for sure. When I compare side by side with the GMT Master, the Sub's date is much more crisp and clear. Almost like the difference between bold font and plain. It is hard to know if this is the date wheel itself or if perhaps I do have an LV with AR under the cyclops.

Is there a definitive way to know this? Any comments on when Rolex introduced the AR? Thanks!

I thought AR was introduced with the GMTII Ceramic.

The AR is placed on the underside of the crystal - under the 'clops. TRFer Sheldon over at http://www.minus4plus6.com/116710.htm has a nice photo layout of this feature.

In the photos, the clops was removed...I don't think you will be wanting to do that Eric!

There is someone on the forum who reported that AR was introduced somewhere on the LV series. I have seen photos of the Sub-C where it is very clear, but harder to tell in person if my Sub LV has the AR.

Thanks for the link to photos of the GMTII-C with the AR under the crystal. This supports my loose theory that the cyclops itself would still reflect on the top of the bubble.

Here is a marginal photo I took a few weeks ago with the Sub LV and Pepsi side by side. You'll notice the Sub's date is crisper and more defined. I'm trying to figure out if this is caused by:

1) AR on the Sub's crystal?
2) Larger, bolder font on the Sub's date wheel?
3) More powerful magnifier on the Sub's cyclops?

Hard to say from your photo Eric, but your two cyclops look like they are both reflecting. I think there may be a datewheel difference...However, I have no facts or hard data to back me up.

Yep, they both are reflecting...as I would expect if the cyclops bubble does not have AR...that's why I was curious about whether it was even possible for my Sub LV's crystal to have AR under the crystal to cause the date to appear so much more crisp than my GMT Master's date.

Based on the pic, no AR on your Sub.

Ciao

Your sub does not have AR on the cyclops. This is what an AR'ed cyclops looks like. At an angle you can see the sky reflecting off the crystal and the cyclops is clear. You will also see a slightly purple hue in the cyclops due to the AR coating. If you have an AR'ed cyclops it is extremely obvious in person.

My random series LV has AR under the cyclops. Very obvious when you glance at it under the sunlight.

Thanks for the responses and photos! This definitively proves that my Sub LV does not have AR under the cyclops.

Heyy, when did rolex start putting AR under cyclops? Would a explorer 2 16570 from 2008 (Mseries) have it?
