Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think it's going to be the SDc. Now I need to go try them on at a dealer. (Even though I feel bad since I would never buy new MSRP from a Rolex dealer lol)

SD4000 for me. Had it since the first month of its release and it is still my favorite Rolex in steel.

I love the RolexRolex engraving, Cermaic bezel, and clasp, so you know my choice.

Go to Fox. Have lunch on Broadway. Look for a watch online in the process. Great day

SDc is the right answer, IMHO. The many benefits mentioned above easily make it worth the extra $1500.
Once you get the right fit on the SDc, it's very, very comfortable. Removing the diver's extension made a big positive difference for me. The watch just feels so solid, and it's an engineering feat, too. Good luck in your decision.

No need to feel bad at all. Do what I do. Before leaving make them a polite offer at TRF pricing. They might just take it as the sdc isn't a big seller. Worked for me.

Having owned both I would strongly suggest the SDc. The 16600 never really balanced well for me and the upgrades on the newer version are amazing. It fits and balances extemely well primarily due to the bracelet. I flipped a sub for it and have no issues regarding the height of this peice. It fits fine under all of my tailored shirts. The added bonus is when the sun hits it the semi matte dial at the perfect angle....wow... hard to go wrong.

absolutely wonderful dial!!! The tipping point for me was seeing yours!! Such a perfect package that is modern. It has been said many times here but it is probably the nicest SS offering in the lineup. In fact it could fit the bill as a one watch only piece.

Hands down SD4K. That watch has mad presence on the wrist and the clasp alone is worth the price. You will love it.

Dwelling. Sea-Dweller 116600 vs 16600
I would go 116600. I have a 16600, and probably wouldn't go for an upgrade unless the price was right, but buying new, too much good stuff on the new version to ignore.

I had both and ended up selling the 16600 because I didn't ever wear it after I fell in love with the 116600.

Old version for me. I guess it all depends though. If we're talking pure aesthetics in terms of proportions, looks better with NATO's and straps and understated coolness - than its the previous version (bonus points for lugs holes). If on the other hand you want more wrist presence and a shinier overall nice piece of jewelry (i.e less of the tool watch essence) with superior build quality than choose the current model.

I flipped my 114060 for the SD4000 and I'm so happy I did. It's the perfect Rolex in my opinion. It's classy, and rugged at the same time. You will not be disappointed!

I've had both and it's the 116600 for me.
I really liked the 16600 and to look at it's a great watch, but I never found the balance was quite right; the 116600 seems to sit better. Also, the bracelet on the 116600 is so superior that words can't describe it, and the fully graduated bezel is simply wonderful. I'm still a big fan of the 16600 but the 116600 wins by a distance.

The SD4c, is the most comfortable ceramic in the diving range, different case helps. The one sea dweller was nice but the new one runs circles around it.

First time poster here but had to make my debut on this point! Go with the new SD4K, machined to perfection! The contrast of the ceramic and matte dial really makes it pop in the right light! Plus if you go pre-owned its the best bang for buck you can get for a Rolex diver! Mines a keeper for life!

Old school for me. I am probably the only one on here that feels this way, but I did not like the ROLEXROLEXROLEX around the dial (we get it, its a Rolex). I don't like how busy the bezel is with all the extra hash marks.
It was a tough call though as I REALLY like that new bracelet. But in the end, the face was just to busy on the new one (for me) to spend the extra money for it (and I still don't understand the improved utility of the Ceramic bezel, have yet to read why that is better). But would be happy with either, they are both great watches. |

I own both, and both have their place. The old one will be worth more than the new one very soon. If I had to sell one it would be the new one as a mint older one would be much harder to pick up. For the Perfect watch you would swap in the new bracelet to the older watch!

I can get the new 116600 to fit my wrist properly, but not the older 16600.

I'm a huge fan of both of these. I constantly go back and forth with which one I may pick up one day... and which one would fit into my collection best. I currently have a vintage 1680 Red Sub and a 16622 Yacht-Master - ones vintage, ones a little dressier, and adding a Sea-Dweller would be a perfect beater for everyday use since it's a tank. I also love the idea of a matte dialed 16660 but the triple 6 and 1665 start getting expensive.
My question was, you mentioned a $1500 discrepancy in price. Is that a current offer you have available or the going rate on the used market? From what I remember the 16600 are readily available for a little over 5k, and I thought the SDc was more than $6500-7? I haven't been following prices though Good luck whatever you decide, they are both fantastic pieces. |
