Serious Question..

I am considering buying the Explorer 1 or the GMT II 116710LN for my Father as a Gift and curious about your reasoning for that one over the 2016

Thank you in advance
First off, let me say; get what you like.

If you prefer the 2016 version of the 214270, then there's your answer.

But if you're slightly on the fence... If you get a chance to try a WG 3 6 9 then I suggest you do that. Or, consider this; you can get a WG for under 5k off a trusted dealer on this very site.

You'll pay more for a 2016.

But the Bigger reason... People on this forum will have you believe the WG 214270 was a mistake. Don't believe it. It's a brilliant watch. It's simplicity in design is second to none. If everyone wants the 2016, I say bet the other way. Get the white gold 3 6 9 and you'll never look back.

Just a quick update: Went to some used watch stores to see the pre ceramic subs, and an AD to see the Explorer. Surprisingly, I couldn't find any 14060s, so I tried some 16610s. Was slightly horrified by the feel of the old subs when comparing it to the BLNR I had on, definitely was not impressed.

When I went to the AD however, that was a different story altogether. They didn't have the 2016 Explorer available so I tried on the older 214270, but I absolutely fell in love with it. They could arrange for the 2016 to arrive without a deposit within a day if I wanted, and I'm sure that would be the perfect watch for me as I wasn't a fan of the white gold arabic numerals.

I'm frankly quite surprised the Explorer was so appealing in person, I thought the subs would've blown it away. I hope to become a proud owner of the 2016 Explorer soon!
