Mouth-watering trip to my AD this morning!!!

Hi guys,

My AD invited me over to check out al the new "DUMMY" models - that's right, all dummies with no movement inside them.

Here's a report...with some nice pics!!

1. WG Blue Sub: Disappointing - they just haven't managed to get the BLUE colour right!!

2. DSSD - massive in height (17 mm), but should be okay on most 7½" wrists as far as width is concerned. Nothing to shout about. The finish is superb and even the all over inscriptions are not bothersome. The thickness put me off!!

3. Day-Date II 41 mm: Now here's a watch to die for!! Absolutely amazing. The Rose Gold was NZ$3K costlier over the YG model. I specially liked the dial with the wave design and the Arabics. I thought the YG model was excellent value for money, but @ NZ$41K, still only a distant dream.

4. Platinum DD-II: While it does look very nice, I would still give it a miss as compared with the gorgeous YG and RG models. The Pt models have a smooth, polished bezel and priced at a ridiculous NZ$71K - man, that's like NZ$30K over the YG model.

5. Rose Gold Daytona: Very impressive, especially the one with the MOP dial.

These have been some hurried pics. After the display is over, these models will be sent back to Geneva to fit in their movements. Everything about these models is authentic, except that they are without any movements inside.

JJ

Um, JJ is there a reason he invited you to see his "dummy" watches? Gotta say the Day Date II is awesome. My new grail. Too bad the Sub blue isn't right. Makes me appreciate mine all the more.

The "he" happened to be a "she"......and a gorgeous one at that!!

The actual models will start flowing into the ADs by Sept./Oct. Would you believe the ADs have already received down payment for the DDs and the DSSD!!

Excellent. I'll be a dummy for an AD with those attributes anytime.

Thanks for the pic's JJ. I can honestly say that I'm not interested in any of them. Thank you Rolex for not making anything new worth while for me.

In all fairness, Wolfgang.....those pics were hurried ones and are not doing the watches any justice at all.

The new DD-II @ 41 mm is absolutely gorgeous - if you can afford it. I like the RG and YG models - both, with Arabics as well as with Romans....stunning was not the word!!

You have to see these in the "flesh" to understand what I'm talking about!!

I'll take your word for it JJ, but I'm an old-school Rolex-guy who likes the way the old cases matched the bracelets and bezels(Harmony in size). All these new super cases make the bracelets look tiny and not proportioned to the bigger cases. Same with the wide bezels on the DD-II's. Seems to me they cut corners without making the bracelets wider. Maybe its the pics, so I'll wait to see them in person to reserve my final judgement. But pic's usually don't lie.

Good point there, Wolfgang!!! I did find the DSSD bracelet to be slightly out of proportion with the bulky watch-head; but the President bracelets on the new DD-II's were perfect and superbly finished. The concealed clasp looked stunning as well as the Rolex logo so beautifully finished. The new DDs are tops!! And the 41 mm size is just right!!

Even if Rolex

comes out with a new SS model for the Sub Date, I would not buy the blue unless my feel toward this one changes. I love the TT blue much better.
