Does anyone remember...?
Haven't been into watches until the last couple years. I am curious to know from the community whether the hype from the Daytona Ceramic was/is similar to when other ceramic versions of models were released (Sub, GMT, SD...)

Can't talk more broadly on the topic, but I do remember when the SubC was introduced there were many lambasting Rolex for having the audacity to make the watch bigger and that it wasn't a true sub anymore. Some also thought the ceramic bezel was cold and lifeless. Much of that talk has now been drowned out by the benefits.

The SubC did not have a warm welcome like the Daytona Ceramic. It took awhile percentage wise. The Daytona Ceramic was eagerly anticipated. Thus, the high price demand.

The reaction to the ceramic Subs was based on the attraction of the "tool" watch motif.
Using bigger lugs and a ceramic bezel seemed at the time seemed to take the "tool" out of the equation, but time has proven that not to be so. The new Daytona is such an improvement over the previous SS models, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality, I can't see why anyone wouldn't be going crazy to get one. I personally have a budgetary limit of 4 digits for watch purchases, but I am so taken with the 116500 that I might make that leap.
