Tudor 7928 parts

I have a 7928 Rose dialTudor that was issued to a Para Rescue friend of mine back in the mid 1960s. It is in totally original & running condition and cosmetically very nice as well.
The only thing missing from the original bezel is the little dot at 12 o'clock. Can anyone suggest a source for that dot? Are originals available or, is an aftermarket dot OK. I'd like to keep the watch totally original if possible.

I suggest to put a wtb for an original tritium pearl and you should be able to find one.

Be sure to get it serviced - if some of the movement parts wear out due to lack of lube, parts can be difficult to obtain ;)

Would love to see photos ;)

Pics of the 7928

Several have asked to see pics of the 7928 so here are a couple. Briefly, it was issued to my best friend while he was serving as a Para Rescueman in the Air Force Air Rescue Service from 1963-1967. It has never been modified in any way. The original expandable bracelet is long gone but the watch is all original except for the aforementioned missing 12 o'clock dot on the bezel. From some research several years ago, I am told that several features on this watch make it very rare.

Original un-retouched gilt dial with gilt chapter ring
small tritium dot below the "6" and above "SWISS"
Large lollipop second hand
Pointed crown guards

We've been thinking of selling it but want to see if the dot can be replaced before then. Here it is:

Wow! Gilt exclamation point small rose dial. Check. Lollipop seconds hand. Check. PCG. Check. Amazing Patina. Check. Unmolested case. Check.

Why on earth would you sell it?!? IMO that thing is GORGEOUS and very hard to come by in that condition.

Beautiful watch OP!

Wow. That is an amazing piece. And no bracelet wear on the back of the case! Did the Braceket die early or was it ditched in favor of a nato or rubber tropic perhaps?

If you are serious about selling, please get in touch with the bigger collectors here. They will make a fair and reasonable offer for you. I would cherish it but I cannot make a fair offer on such a rare piece in amazing survivor condition.

Thats a nice Tudor 7928. How does one know if it was issued or bought?

As for knowing if it was issued or bought, one would have to know that all Para Rescue personnel back then were issued Tudor Oyster Princes. I also had one which I sold about 8 years ago. There are still some others that we were stationed with that would be glad to verify that these Tudors were, in fact, issued to the Para Rescuemen. A main reason they were issued these watches was because they made jumps into water to place the collars onto the original Gemini capsules when they landed in the ocean and needed waterproof watches. I could also probably come up with some photos of us wearing our watches back in the 60s and 70s. On the salaries we made back then (about $180 a month for an airman 2nd class) we could never have afforded to buy one.

The original bracelets were Oysters with expandable, stretch links. They broke or wore out over time. Clint threw his away many years ago in favor of a rubber strap. Today, it wears a reproduction Oyster bracelet that I got for him but, he has never worn the watch with it on. It has been in his safety deposit box at his bank for many, many years.

This watch would sell with or without the dot. What a beauty.

I blame it on the autoconnect.

Stunning 7928 and terrific provenance. IMHO it would be a shame to sell, but if that's your decision, the effort (economic reward) of sourcing a period correct pip is negligible. Archival photos of the watch being worn, any original paper documentation, even a typescript of your oral history with the watch are all more valuable than the insert pearl.
