If this is your view, and it is a common one amongst us WIS, then you should keep it, but if you have not been thru anything with your watch and you fancy it all nice and sparkling new then go for it.

This is exactly how I feel. However, I do have a spoon that holds a very special place in my heart.

OP, the pre owned prices you see are far higher than any dealer will give you on the Hulk you currently have for cash. You are much better off paying for the service and getting the warranty.

You also said that, " in need of service sometime in the next few years". So, really there is nothing wrong with it at this moment? Just keep it, unless there is something you don't like about it. If that's the case, a new one won't resolve that.

Good luck!

If worn infrequently, your watch may not need service for another 5 years. I wouldn't sell even if I have to service it sooner. Watches are not "disposable items" that we get rid of once become used. I keep my watches until I longer love them; just personal preference...

I wouldn't service the watch.

However, if you really want it to be serviced, if you can truly get a new 116610LV for under $1000 cost, then sure go for it, but that would be pretty surprising for me.

Here in the US the MSRP is $9050 and the best trade-in value I could find was $7000.

It's completely up to you bud. Some people prefer to have the latest; of course, it's going to have a cost but I can see your rationale behind it all. Pay a little more to have a brand new watch and fall in love again for a small price. People do it all the time with cars; it's called leasing. =)

When leasing, by the time the lease is up, the car model in question at least has upgrades or more options.

OP would be selling his Hulk to buy the exact same watch.

I get what you're saying but the OP is getting a brand new unstickered watch with a five year warranty. He wouldn't have to wait for the watch while it's in service either. It's a no brainer for me.

Reasonable move if you anticipate a big repair bill coming I guess. I on the other hand, am not so good with fortune telling.

I can see his point. If there's no sentimental attachment and you can sell the one you have high and buy a new one low ( or at least a good price), why not do it?

Hope you don't ever get married.....

I find what the OP is proposing to be absurd.

what do you do with your old tvs?

i tend to doubt you really would be able to sell it at what you are expecting. if you really can having a bnib one with 5 year makes sense to me. i'd do it if not a pita.

If there is nothing wrong with the watch I would suggest hold off service until 8 to 10 years. My gmt2c when I got it brand new was behind a few sec per day. I had Rolex regulate it and now it keeps perfect time. I have my watch for 7 years now with no service. I'm holding to 10 years to have it service. Service cost estimate $600 from Rolex. If independent delete maybe cheaper.

I am confident i can get my hands on a BNIB Hulk from an AD for around 10,000-10,500cad all in.

Would it make sense to service my watch or would I be better off selling it and spending the extra $500-1k to have a new one with stickers and 5 yr warranty?
you won't get $9000 can for a 5 year old hulk....the ones your looking at are LNIB, or a year old if that....yours would sell for around $8000 can.....right off the bat the buyer will want $500 OFF for service costs...

not all pre-owned watches are the 'same'

It would be a pain to sell it and then buy it again. Just get it serviced.

How many times have you needed to utilize your warranty? It's great to have but it really only has value if you use it. By the time you factor everything in, I'd just say screw it and get it serviced and keep it. Enjoy the memories.

The price for a brand new Hulk today would be quite different from what you paid 5 years ago. Unlike a car, your new Hulk has no advantage over your 5 year old example. Ok, 5 year warranty... but what's wrong with yours again?

For me, the longer I have a Rolex, the harder it is to part with. Don't you have any memories with that hulk? I would hang on to it and get another model new!

Assuming service is 700 and a new one would only be 1000 in difference. 100% better off going for the new one. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't value 3 years warranty for $300. Plus it's nice to get a new watch (:

Why does yours need service? It's only five years old.

I'd say no unless you will be parking the brand new hulk in the safe.

For the past 5 years of ownership, flip it for something new and different or continue to enjoy the watch until it runs out of COSC, then decide.
