I have always been a 1 watch person. When I got my Sea-Dweller I was content in the fact that I would never need another watch and my SD would last me a lifetime. However, hanging around TRF I seriously started doubting that and found myself really wanting a GMT, ExpII and various vintage pieces.

I appreciate other brands and I want an Omega Speedmaster, a Breitling Navitimer among others but as I said I'm a 1 watch person and an SD was my grail watch so as much as I love other watches I just can't see myself wearing anything else. I really want a sapphire sandwich Speedy but in my mind it just doesn't compete with the SD.

I'm afraid I would spend several thousand dollars on other watches and they would never see any wrist time.

I'm wondering if I hang out here to live out my watch fantasies on TRF. I see all the members who have many watches that I would love to have, and to be honest I can afford, but I think I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm just not a multiple watch person. I would feel guilty if I had several high end watches and I wore them in rotation.

For the most part I'm perfectly happy with my SD but this place has a detrimental effect on my 1 watch mindset and if a 1680 comes my way at the right time this may all be out the window.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I'm the same way. I have 4 or 5 other non-rolex watches, but I never wear them. My tastes for a second Rolex are leaning toward the vintage side. I'd love a 5513 or an old Datejust, but I am afraid I would just wear my favorite all of the time (which I do now).

I NEED a few oysters to choose from. My GMT II is a work horse on the road and when I need an extra time zone or two while working at home. But when relaxing at home I find a vintage oyster really comfortable.

This may sound weird, but once you have a few watches, I actually look forward to changing them up a bit. I will admit that my modern pieces get more wrist time than my vintage pieces, but all of my watches, with one exception, get worn.

I keep my watches in a safe in two groups. One group is only SS and the other group contains my TT's. Now the fun part. I wrap each one in a soft rag and place in a zip lock baggie. I cannot see what is in each bag. I wear a TT to work and a SS everywhere else. Each moring and afternoon I reach in and grap a baggie and whatever watch I choose I wear. Very rare I wear the same watch twice in a week. Kind of fun and I enjoy wearing each watch. Now if you want to know how I pick out my women.....

I'm similar to you, in the fact that I believe I will be a "one watch man" forever. I now have owned my SS Sub Date for about a year and just cant bring myself to wearing anything else. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and enjoy reading about other TRF members who have impressive collections of fine timepieces. And to some degree, I do envy them! I do have the resources to afford other timepieces, I have just chosen to make my 16610 my one and only. Here's my story....

There is just something to be said about a faithful companion that has joined you on life's journeys.... both good and bad. I think of my father for instance. Althought he's not a watch person, he's always appreciated a good smoke with his pipe. I am now about to turn 40 and when I often think back about the fond memories he and I have shared together over the years. My mind somehow always seems to take me back to the many, many times when I would see my father sitting in his old leather chair smoking his pipe. This pipe has been his one and only for the 40 years that I have been on the plannet, and will be serving him well until, we'll..... I would rather not think of it!

In anycase, my father could have purchased any munber of pipes over his lifetime. Each would have no doubt served the utilitarian role it was designed for. However, this ONE particular pipe became weaved into the fabric of his life and became part of who he is, was and will be. And there is something to be said about that! Just think of it.... that one pipe was there for the birth of me and my brother, for my marriage. It conforted him during the time he lost his father. And just recently, he pulled it out for a celebratory "puff" when he retired after a long and successful 40 year career. The examples are endless, but his pipe was the one constant in his evolving life.

Call me crazy, but I am hoping my faithful Sub is in some way, my way of honoring my father. A value he instilled with me, if you will. And I hope that decades from now when I'm gone, my children will get together and reminisce about the good memories they all had with their father.....with my tried and true Sub always on his arm!

Sorry to get so sappy on all of you, but this post just hit a sentimental nerve with me and I wanted to share my story as I think it may be why many of us are "one watch men".

No but wardrobe masters for Mr Harrison, and Mr Wrinkler we're ready to fill the void if anything were to happen to their iconic props. The same goes for TRF super heroes!

For almost 7 years, I wanted so badly to get a Rolex. I finally got a SS Sub for my 30th B-Day. For the next 10 years it rarely left my wrist. I didn't need or want another watch. Then I saw the TT Blue Sub. I had to have it. I got that for my 40th B-Day. Here we are, 8 years later and I picked up a Breitling Emergency just for kicks. I'm itching to get a GMT Pepsi. My TT gets 70% wrist time and the SS and EM split the rest. Give it some time and you may rethink your numbers. Hopefully, Rolex will have something cool for my 50th.

I read a recent post of Dick's that was sort of on the same line. I have never been a true collector, but somehow I end up with a lot of stuff. At one time I owned several guitars, five of them were high end Martins. I've eliminated all but three and one of those will be on ebay shortly. I would like to get down to one guitar but letting go of the second to the last is difficult, although the process has been quite freeing. I would love to have only one good watch. I've given two of my watches to my sons, one each. I gave one of my old Tudors to my wife. That leaves me with a fluted bezel Tudor, a '97 Omega Dynamic Date, a brand new Omega PO and my Sub no-date. I thought that the Sub would be a good loner, but then again, what happens when the watch needs servicing. I would be watch-less for a couple of months. So on the practical side, I would really need two watches. And for that matter, with the same reasoning, I guess I would need two guitars.
Oh, and by the way, I do salivate on my keyboard when I see all the beauties displayed on this forum.

I convinced myself that when I finally got the SD that I always wanted I would be content...instead the SD made me want another one to change up with, so a GMT is on the way, and then...it will likely get ugly from there.

I like having more than one watch and I like to change them frequently. At the same time, I don't see the point of having too many because I want all of them to get wrist time. When I buy a new watch, my search is usually focused on obtaining something I don't already have, for example, either a new:

Complication
Movement
Brand

There are times when I fall into a rut and keep on wearing the very same watch for a week or two, in part because I like it at the time or because I will find myself in the same circumstances quite a bit (lots of banquets, or swimming sessions, etc.).So I do value the idea of having several models to change to whenever my whim strikes.

I have only one Rolex, a WG DJ. I have 4 Omegas and some Breitlings too.
I wear the Omega's more than any other watch...the Moonwatch gets most wrist time.
BUT since I have been reading this darn website I want to get rid of all the Breitlings except one and get a Pepsi GMT, BUT with the economy sucking the way it does
I cant sell the Breitlings and im not giving them away.
I will have to wait till the economy improves before I search for a Pepsi now.
This really sucks and blows at the same time.

What began with the innocent purchase of my first Rolex - a SS DateJust, White Roman Dial and Oyster band (2001) has grown into a serious disease (or rather "Dis-Ease").

I soon began to window shop at many different AD's while salivating. Living in the greater New York City area there is a multitude of AD's within a 50 mile radius.

It was not long before the wallet opened and has not stopped since.

As I stated in my first newbie post, I feel I have a reasonable collection (From current Z and M) to vintage bubble backs and precisions.

I was very fortunate for I had somewhat of a "Mentor" when my buying mode began to hit 5th gear. I was saved from experiencing any buyer's remorse or being ripped-off.

I did not know Sh-- and my "detailed" knowledge is still pretty lousy.

When I wanted to begin purchasing the vintage pieces, my mentor was really the one who saved my ass.

A Rolex Fanatic I have known for years - and resides a couple of hours outside of London - really took me under his wing and helped me score some pretty nice vintage pieces.

Have posted pics of one I recently acquired with the help of my good mate and guru while in London on Business...

Feedback appreciated and the hard truth is welcome if valid.
