new watch-wearing trend?

Im noticing alot of people, especially younger folks wearing watches upside down so the clasp is on he top of wrist, is this to help avoid scratches or a new fasion statment? I think it looks dumb personally.

Maybe it's 'cause they're wearing it too loose and it's turning around on it's own......

It was a common practice in WW II . The purpose was to keep the dial from giving away your position.

Sounds like a good way to bung up your crystal.

actually, for those of us with more flesh on the underside, a 40mm can sit a whole lot better on that side arm, slide less, and is in a natural place to check for the time as well as the look. if one gets swiped in the street, then it is more likely that the band will be the victim, rather than the case of crystal. in history, people like carter, reagan, heston and the conductor karajan all had the same habit, karajan being the only long time rolex owner in the bunch. as for the military connection, the whole cast of the ultra-macho series, "the unit" all did the same. beside the rolex bands and clasps do have a poetry of their own and can look quite striking that way.

My dad wears his that way - he's a WWII vet if that has anything to do with it. And it's funny, but I've noticed other people wearing their watches that way a few times just recently, myself.

My neighbor is a WWII vet and he wears his leather-strapped Timex that way.

A lot of my cop buddies also wore their watches in similar fashion.
