Many reputable sources say the 1016 was released in 1963, however I have seen a few dating back to as far as 1960. Does anyone know the official release year? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

"Official release" would probably vary depending on the market (Europe, U.S., etc.). I believe the earliest 1016 I'm aware of dates to 1960.

Earliest ones are around 1960. There are several incorrect sources stating 1963.
