Does one really 'need" anything else...?

This is a classic, a perfect watch. Complications such as GMT, chrono, etc., are, of course, extremely useful at times, but as a watch, a simple watch to keep time and remind you of the day of the month, the Datejust is as good as it gets.

One would argue a $50 Casio or Swatch can do the same thing

Funny thing is now even my wife wants a sub and says the DJ is too small!

As opposed to most, I agree; after getting my datejust I now feel like my 214270 is way too big.
It's a shame they dropped the 36 mm Explorer.

The only Rolex I ever sold, my Explorer 36mm, I miss it sorely. And I had recently bought it new before selling it.

It doesn't get any classier than the DJ. THE iconic Rolex IMO.

When you use ICONIC that for me is the sub date hands down. That would be a fun poll.

The DJ has been the biggest selling Rolex for a long time, and it really is good for everything. I'm a very casual guy, so I wear an Explorer II, but I loved my DJ.

Absolutely agree with the above statement!
Wouldn't be a fare comparison considering the big price difference between the submariner and an older style DJ. Absolutely the DJ has been a staple for Rolex and it is a classic, that doesn't mean GMT's and Daytona's are only good if you have a reason to use the features. Budget and taste has a lot to do with it.

I'll take a DJ over that green thing, and I have three Subs.

Absolutely, it's a no brainier. No one here would take Submariner 116610lv over a DJ 16200. What was I thinking? Again, it's a matter of tast and budget. No need to refer to the LV as the green thing because you prefer a DJ

I tend to agree that hours, minutes, seconds and a date is very satisfying and useful.
Those who have a Day-Date may say that the day is also a useful function.

However, the presentation of the watch is something that can be subject to infinite variations. The DateJust is just one such variation, which I like, but I like a lot more variations too.

I do like a submariner and a GMT although that has an extra hand, which is really very useful too.

Nice bike, but you do need disc brakes
