Submariner silver or black rolex stamp on band

Hello all,

Very fortunate to have just purchased my first rolex! I went with the 116610 submariner date (from Jomashop as I had a discount code and I've had good experiences with them in the past).

I love everything about this watch, but when I look at other pics of the sub c online, the rolex stamp on the band looks black. My is polished and silver. Do they have 2 different versions? Pic attached.

Just kidding there is 2 versions. The rough sandpaper like version was phased out about 4 years ago as far as I know (guesstimate). It was nicer because you could light matches on it...not sure why they changed it.

Totally normal. The newer version (changed sometime around late 2015, early 2016) is the polished one but the older sandblasted version looks less cheap and more refined to me. Not sure why Rolex changed it.

Looks like $7800 is what Jomashop is selling for - your coupon. FYI, you can get a brand new one from a trusted seller here for around $7500 +/-$200 with 5yr warranty card. Warranty aside, the card itself works as an authenticator and if you try to resell it, you will lose almost $2000 because it will be without "papers". If you haven't removed the lame "NO RETURNS IF THIS TAG IS REMOVED" label, I would return it.

Thank you for the feedback, and I've long removed the tags. But I am comfortable with what I paid because I plan on keeping it for as long as humanly possible. With that said, and I apologize if this comes off harsh, but I don't see a $2K loss. I'm sure there's the potential for some loss, but really that extreme? I understand having a rolex warranty card, but I have the receipt from JS (which is a reputable seller), which shows the serial number that's registered with JS and also engraved in the bezel, (and the seller could call them to verify my purchase). I have the box, and everything else it came with. I'd also be happy to have a dealer verify it's authenticity in front of the seller. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and lesson learned. Fortunately, I have absolutely no plans to ever sell it, just a newbies thoughts.

The OP will not lose $2K on that watch because of warranty card. Seriously? What evidence can you provide to substantiate that statement? You really should put some thought before making illogical statements, IMO. It is just a warranty, and the majority of new watches never even need warranty work.

Seems like $500 is a fair loss for no papers, even that may be too much unless there's no box as well. If I could get Rolex's $2000 less without papers, I'd never want papers! You did good buying from Joma, don't look back!

On a new watch without Rolex paperwork, it's not just about whether the watch will need warranty work, it's about whether or not the owner will end up flipping it, as many of us do here. A modern Rolex without the factory guarantee card is much, much harder to sell, as many guys won't even consider buying one without it. I'd say at least $1K of a difference, IMHO. (Paperwork with vintage Rolexes is much more valuable, of course.)

Please re-read Post#9! The OP states he HAS the box and other accessories that came with the watch. He has already said he is HAPPY with his purchase, so stop with the silliness!

Congratulations OP. The silver stamp is new for 2016. You got a fresh one. The black one is the old style.

Correction to MY post. I meant the validity of the warranty. Unless I'm mistaken Jomasshop is a grey dealer and they not give the Rolex warranty card. I don't think it's "silly" to take the time to fully inform a new Rolex owner on all his possible options.

newer versions of the fliplock are polished, I prefer the older style because the finishing is awesome!

Once the warranty is expired the plastic card is just that. Its worth a nominal amount at that point if you re-sell, and virtually nothing if you end up doing a Rolex factory service down the road, since you will get a new and valid warranty card with the service. Enjoy your sub!

Assuming OP paid $7600, pre-owned private resale goes for around $6700 used in good condition. Lose a couple hundred from not having the papers and the cost of insured shipment for the watch, you're pretty close to $2k.

If I'm not mistaken Jomashop gives you a two year warranty. Don't new Rolex come with a five year warranty now? So essentially he's losing 3 years worth of warranty, if that's the case.
