Tiger Woods & Rolex

Was scrolling through my Instagram and noticed Tiger Woods is now being sponsored by Rolex! Looks like he's making his comeback.

He has been an ambassador for them for years after a short hiatus.

He was dropped late 2009 by Tag Heuer after his public shaming then moved to rolex not long after.

Rolex stuck with him through his marriage challenges. I salute them for that. There is a video out there showing Rolex introducing him to the Sky Dweller - pretty good watch.

No they didn't, he signed with them in 2011 after Tag dropped him two months prior.

I'm not sure why it matters. However I remember Rolex latching on to TW while he was still in his marriage challenges.

It's not Jeopardy my friend. It's just a memory for all of us.

Not sure what you mean by latching onto him, but he didn't sign with Rolex until 2011 in the wake of Tag dropping him.

It was a very astute signing - I bet they were delighted to get him on board!

Yes, just as great as Rolex signed on Roger Federer from Maurice LaCroix.

I'm happy to be increasing my post count!

And before Tag he was with Tudor. This is from 1997, shortly after he turned pro:

I always felt Rolex was grabbing TAG's sloppy seconds with the signing. It seems odd for a brand that likes to be synonymous with untarnished excellence.

The advert is for a 116610, can see a cyclops.
Seems he prefers to wear a dssd, since that's what we always see him wearing around events

tiger woods? What a tool. I thought Rolex would want better character with which to be associated.

I recall a Sports Illustrated article a few years ago just prior to his marital fiasco. He mentioned his biggest priority was ensuring his family would be taken care of financially. At the time he was worth half a billion. Glad to see he could afford to let Rolex give him a Sub.

Why all the raining on Tiger?

Guy made some mistakes, did everything society has asked him to do to atone for them, and at the end of the day - they were his mistakes, that he has to live with.

Not to go biblical here, but "he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

As far as Rolex signing him, good on them. It's an astute move that, in the long run, will only pay dividends for them.

And, if you're a fan of Golf, you know Tiger's made the game far more competitive, given the level of player today: guys that are fitness freaks and can bomb the ball a mile. Unfortunately his success wasn't without carnage in that he had to gut Ernie Els along the way. But that is the price of success, I guess.

Kind Regards,

Ben

Whichever person or persons were hired to help "fix" his image back then should write a book. That would be an interesting read. I think the tudor tiger chronographs are cool 👍

That is a good philosophy for how one treats his fellow man (or woman), but we're talking about marketing here. The question is, does Tiger Woods enhance Rolex's image, or not? Reasonable minds can differ. You seem to think it's a good fit. I don't.

My wife pointed this out to me as she saw on Instagram this morning. I always thought he was with Tag. I then saw this pic of him with a SubC. Well, go Tiger! You got good taste in watches!

Like him or not, the Tiger era made golf pretty fun to watch. To this day, he still brings attention and money to the game. Heck even his competitors want him back. As Jordan Speith said recently 'Tiger moves the needle.'
