Emerging opinions on the new Deep Sea
Hi all, I've been gone for a bit, and just returned and did a quick look over the more recent postings. I see that there has been one Deep Sea bought and flipped, with the event posted on this site.
I have not seen it yet myself, so I'm interested in reading the opinions of those here who have. The Deep Sea has begun to hit the ADs, so I'm interested in reading about your observations as this watch is seen and actually handled by more and more forum members. Best, Chris |

It still has to prove itself before it can replace the SD .... the SD has a legendary
history ... they better take take the DSSD to the Mariana's Trench or take it and put it on the hull of the titanic ... but is sure has long way to go to be credible. |

The general consensus is that the writing on the rehaut is actually quite subtle in person.
Also it is very thick and top heavy. |

COMEX Hydra 10 current world record dive is 701m.
http://www.comex.fr/suite/ceh/histo/...20anglais.html Huge watch with a 4,000m depth rating? Kinda silly if you ask me. They should have kept the SD and launched the Deep Sea as a separate product. Nuff said. |

On my Expy II ("M" w/3186 movement) the rehaut is nearly vertical wrt the dial. Therefore, to see the text on the rehaut one must look obliquely at the dial. Unlesss you make an effort to see the text it is virtually not there! Further, the text is engraved only and not filled in with color meaning low contrast with the metal rehaut. The rehaut on the DSSD, by comparison, makes a shallower angle wrt the dial. Thus the text is easily visable when one looks at the dial full on rather than obliquely. Lastly, the text on the DSSD rehaut is filled in with a dark color (black?); the resulting greater contrast making it more visable against the rehaut color. If the rehaut were more vertical on the DSSD it would have allowed a larger dial diameter which would have better complimented the larger case size, imo. The above, notwithstanding, my 6.5 to 6.6 in. wrist would never tolerate the size, so I continue looking for a late, classic SD. |

Yeah, "flamboyant." Get rid of word bling! Never held it.

[QUOTE=beamon;721762]I guess one man's "subtle" is another man's "flamboyant". In my case, it is flamboyant...
I agree it looks flamboyant, however I've heard the writing stands out much more in photos, it's not so obvious when in your hand |

There is more that I dislike about this watch than like.
That said, they will sell a ton of them. I think the hype will deflate in a hurry though so flippers better stay aware of the market. |

My only complaint, without actually seeing one in person, is that the width of the bracelet appears to be too small for the case and lugs...looks forced, don't know how else to describe it.

it's a beast. Let's put it like this: Would you wear any large watch? there lies the answer to your personal view on this watch. It's simply a fat Rolex. Would you drive a 3,5,or 7 series? It's a matter of taste and "Flamboyancy". I like that word.

Spot on. If everyone were really after the "baddest" Rolex dive watch, there would have been lists for obtinaing a SD prior to this, IMHO.

Yes, compared to the rather conservative designs of other SS Rolex sport modele, IMHO the DSSD appears flamboyant - much like a man in leather chaps with a feather boa............

I would like to have a chance to wear it on my wrist before making a opinion. The writing on the inner bezel in the pics makes it appear a little too busy, but really wont know til I can see in person.

While I do find the thickness of the watch over-bearing, the rest of it is a masterpiece in superb craftsmanship and watchmaking technology!! JJ

The watch is a joke for a number of reasons, but what this review mostly left me with is that the darn thing is very thick. So thick to be awkward and ugly.
Since the size stems from a STUPID water resistance goal that is meaningless for fully 100% of the potential buyers it's a huge mistake. Nice blue lume though and glad that bracelet is coming to the Sub. |

I think that the "problem" of the new SDDS is that it caters to a smaller market. It's 43mm case diameter will mean that some people will simply find the watch too big. On the other hand, as the "flagship" divers watch, the 1220m rating of the SD was less than a lot of its competitors (not that it would matter in the real world). I guess this was the motive behind creating the SDDS.
The ring behind the crystal probably provides some support to the crystal, so it was probably an engineering decision. |

A friend of mine saw one the other day at a local AD. We were speaking yesterday, and his feel was that the DSSD looked like two Sea Dwellers stacked on atop the other. I've heard others say that the thickness and weight don't work with the diameter. Too thick, too tall.
I will personally reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh, I'm quite keen to see how it really looks. Chris |

My only potential complaint is that the DSSD might be too big for me, but I just heard from someone with a smaller wrist than mine that his fits fine. If this is what I conclude as well, then I want one; the watch looks pretty cool. I feel this way even though my own needs are perfectly handled by the 300 meter Submariner.

Brilliant statement! Yeah, I wouldn't buy something either for $10 that is worth 90,000% more on the open market...what would I want with all that money I could make flipping it for a ridiculous profit?

I find it funny how the OP asked for comments from people who have had the watch on their wrist. Even so, everyone went ahead and gave their opinion anyway - even though they've only seen it on their screen.
And I'm getting sick of people who dislike the Deepsea ONLY because they don't have it. |
