Best steals ever?
So, I work in a retail store that buys/sells watches.
Had a customer the other day sell me a BRAND new Tudor Pelagos (blue dial and bezel) with extra straps and all, boxed and perfect. For $1200 Couple of days ago, picked up a black dial domed bezel with roulette date 116200 datejust brand new with stickers and all extras for..... $2500. What are some of your guys steals? :) |

Best deal I ever will get was on my first Rolex, a BNIB 16610. Bought it through a friend of mine whose dad was an AD back east. She got me the "daddy's little girl" discount...AD cost and no sales tax. While I didn't shop the price around, I doubt the grey market could have done better.

When the economy tanked, I picked up a Z serial 16622 for $4500. It was complete with all boxes, booklets, card, hang tags, etc.

I bought my Z serial unpolished full box, papers, everything, GMT Master II 16710 in November, 2015.
I paid $6200 CAD. This is equal to $4600 USD. It was in absolutely perfect condition and had everything. The owner just didn't know how much they had risen in value recently.

I dont believe the tudor/rolex story.....and IF it is true it was probably stolen or someone developed a crack addiction and was in desperate need for a fix.....because no one would just sell a BNIB tudor/rolex to a 'pawn' shop under normal conditions...no way.... |

I got my 116710LN GMTIIc in the UK for 5% off retail in an AD, and then got the tax back as I am no longer resident.
£3560, so $4400 USD. No crack dealers benefited in the transaction. Edit: my last purchase was an Ebel Brasilia in a Movado outlet store. 81.5% off. Mustn't grumble. |

I recently bought a 1680 red submariner mark mark II dial (meters first) for 10k. I even made a post about it in the vintage section. I ended up selling it afterwards.

Wow, why all the hate for the Pawn shops....they're are the original barter system for our economy. Are you folks even aware of the restrictions pawn shops have to work with regarding the purchase of merchandise?
They typically don't buy from thieves and addicts, and they have to track all sales with a valid ID and they have to record the serial numbers of each item taken in......then they need to report all of this info to the local police dept. who in turn, cross reference this info with any reports of stolen property....if an item is reported stolen, the PD confiscates it as evidence.....ultimately the Pawn ends up the loser here as they're out the money they paid for the item, and they're out the item.... What are my qualifications you might ask.....I'm a former PD officer who worked in Property Crimes.....and I did these regular checks with the local Pawn shops! |
