I have a 95 Rolex 18238 that I plan to wear on only special occasions. It'll spend most of its time in a safety deposit box. How long is too long to leave a rolex of that age unworn?

Does it not matter?

If its had an overhaul in the last decade and has modern synthetic oils at the movement wear points, it can sit virtually indefinitely between wearings. Otherwise I'd want to give it a wind every couple of months or so to keep the oils where they'll do their job.

Service every 10 years and it should be fine. As a general rule you should service more frequently the older a watch is. It also might be a good idea to fully wind it ocasionally to keep the lubricants moving about.

Wind every now and then. Ensure it was last serviced with synthetic oils and all is fine for at least 10 years

Hi!
For whatever is worth, in my case, I store them dial down.
I believe since they are oiled this way, lubricants will stay where they should....
It has worked really good on watches stored without been handled for over a year !

Yeah, I think the key would be giving them a full manual wind every now and then.
