Had it with the Daytona C

Called my AD (previous purchase history and good relationship) on the day of release and was told I was number 2 on the list.

Spoken to them today (3rd time) and they are more vague than ever on availability.

So frustrating when you see an abundance of 15k watches in the grey market.

My current collection encompasses a SD4K, 116520 and a 26320 AP ROC.

For balance of collection and best long term gains, I'm trading up the SD4K to a 116515LN everose.

Cermaic bezel and some precious metal makes for a more balanced trio.

Wouldn't trading the 520 give you better balance?

Aren't SS Daytona's supposed to be entry-level Daytona's vs. YG, WG, RG, and Plat?

If so, aren't entry-level products meant to draw in more people who previously hadn't considered the brand / model line?

If so, Rolex didn't get the memo here.

Indeed.

I wish we had a consistent Rolex Boutique network worldwide.

There won't be any discounts (e.g., Omega Boutiques are generally strictly MSRP-only), but at least we'll have consistency.

Besides, AD's aren't allowed to advertise (or technically "give" even though we know some do) discounts right now anyway.

Wish I could say the same. :(

It's a horrible experience being a Daytona addict.

Take a deep breath and try to fathom why you want one. In most cases it's because of hyPe and being told you can't have one! Try not to get sucked into the AD and forum hype around a watch that isn't even that special. Sooner or later one will turn up.
I've never been into Daytonas, actually turned down a swap for a no crown guard for my new Sub' 30 years ago, turns out that was a £25k mistake. I'd actually passed on a new one just before buying my Sub' so that was another £25k. If I happen upon one at list I'll buy it and flip for massive profit simply because I'd be stupid not to exploit the ridiculousness of the Daytona mystique. I honestly think the reason AD's don't have them is because they sell most out the back door to relatives/friends etc for quick profit from grey sellers.

I emailed my AD last week and asked what are the chance of getting a daytona. He told me 2017isnt looking good so I guess I'm that Far on the list and not a big enough spender. So I'm going t continue to save and if business really goes well I might look into a PM model.

I agree. I really think Rolex is making a mistake on this one. At some point the artificial hype just gets annoying, and it makes you think a bit less of the company. Why can't they treat their customers right and make the SS Daytona available in a more transparent manner?

Couldn't agree more with all the frustration. No issues getting them weekly, daily from all these gray market and "trusted" sellers yet the person that wants one to actually wear and enjoy one can't get them. Yet these "trusted sellers" have them for gouge er I meant mark up daily. Making it very hard to stay loyal to Rolex. What makes it tougher is when are loyal to Rolex and own many of them but because you don't buy them all from the same AD you are nothing.

Anytime demand outstrips supply the supplier gets a flambé - how many are pent up?
I'm guessing at 4-5 per AD on average, even if Rolex turned all production towards the Daytona 500 they would just satisfy pent up demand.

Perhaps a name change is in order, Daytona C should move over to the Daytona A, A for anguish which is rampant around the forum.

The scarce supply is nothing new as I remember in 1990 there was a 7 year wait in the UK for the Daytona. I didn't bother back then and instead spent any money I had on education. It turned out to be a much better investment.

I'm clearly very much in the minority when it comes to the Daytona Ceramic.

A definite whiff of the 'Emperor's New Clothes' about the whole carefully orchestrated drip-feed of supply by Rolex and frenzy of over-hyping.

A couple of new dial rings & a spot of ceramic aren't enough to get me frothing at the mouth or camping out at an AD, but I get that there may be others who get excited about it, and that's fine - maybe it's just me.

A superb watch, no doubt, but there's loads of other fantastic watches out there to get excited about, so I don't get the obsessive pursuit - sometimes I wonder if (some!) new owners might not get a little bit tired of their new Daytona after flashing it all over social media for a while.

Each to their own though, I appreciate this hobby isn't the most rational, so I don't begrudge anyone who pursues one.
