Scratches - be gone!
Found some tiny scratches/graze marks on my new watch which caught my eye in sunlight so bought some cape cod cloths and got to work today for half an hour.
Quite pleased with the results and how simple it was to do with a little bit of elbow grease and some masking tape ! :D Edit: ** Ive only done this ONCE to bring the bracelet up to as new since I bought the watch last week and wanted to start with it in as good as possible a condition - I WONT be doing this again folks dont worry :) ** Last edited by DJRikki; 14 January 2017 at 11:28 PM.. Thats a once off shot as Ive just bought the watch - any more battle scars can stay in place till I get it serviced in 5 years! Just wanted my new purchase to start off as perfect as could be :D

Nice results! But better get used to them, as scratches are like Arnold - they'll be back.

You were wise to mask off the brushed areas. Otherwise, they become polished as well.

Agree, and that's only a temporary fix.

Looks great! I wear all my watches and just accept the "battle scars" they acquire. I have a little hairline scratch across the lugs and end link on my new Explorer.
I did use Cape Cod cloth on a different stainless case that had been hit with a scotch brite pad on the polished part where it should not have. Scratches were not too deep and it came out really well. |

I had the urge to try the scotchbright on my sub clasp. Then, in a moment of clarity, I asked myself"what am I really doing here?
I then put down the sponge and learned to love every defect, knowing full well that I could have them corrected at any time by a professional. Not saying that any at home touch up is a poor job, as most are fine, but I think it is good to resist the urge. |

Personally I tend to avoid capecod as it still leaves micro abrasion. Can be seen at certain lighting conditions.
But it does look great in the pics |

Can't remember the last time I pulled out the Cape Cod cloth. Got tired of it and learned to live with the scratches.

Looks good....but they're coming back. Trust me when I tell you that you are the only one that sees them. The watch is a winner in everyone else's eyes.

I know they will return but they will be my own doing, not down to the previous owner. So I'll own them :D Have a great weekend folks! |
