This forum never ceases to amaze me!
Great opinions here.
2 child seats? Never had to deal with/enjoy that.
Had a C2S manual. Very cool. Will always miss the 3rd pedal. Can the DCT/PDK shift faster. Of course, but I drive to work and back. How much traffic where you drive?
Next car was 997.1 Cabriolet Turbo. Best I have ever driven. Crazy fast and Go cart handling.I'm not a professional driver, but in that car,I was pretty good!

Now a E93 M3. DCT.
I enjoy it in traffic, but somewhat boring. Handles well, power at high revs(I have the older v8,S65 engine)over 6000 RPM is great but seldom get there.

You need a lot of test drives!

Wow guys thanks so much for all of the input. For those who mentioned the DCT will not be nearly as smooth as the PDK thank you. I am going to drive the DCT again tomorrow and let you know. Porsche totally nailed the PDK and my next P car will most likely be PDK. Love this forum !

Go Turbo if possible.
I know all new 911's are turbo, but get the real 911 Turbo.
There is no substitute!

DCT in"M"mode is not smooth.

Drive them all and stay safe!

Are you a die hard manual fan? Stuck in traffic much?

Whenever I have a manual car, I always have another vehicle that is auto. Good to have choices for days when I don't feel like driving a stick.

Newer DCT is better than older gen., make sure you do a proper test drive before buying it.

Did you look at the new panny? It is much better than the old one. It is a big car but drives small especially if optioned right.

I had an AMG C63 and it was fast call it what you want semi automatic or dual clutch or paddle shifting or they can abbreviated to make it mean whatever they want the market it a certain way sure the computers make the car fast it shifts faster better and so on and so forth to me they're all still automatics.

Racing is all about having fun and being one with the car and I think the only way to do that is with a manual transmission

I have 2 other cars for DD the M3 will really just be for leisure driving and days I feel like having a little more fun. I haven't looked at the new Panamera, but will check it off before making the final decision. Thanks for your input

BMW 6 Speed Manual Vs DCT

IMHO- My M6 with a 7-Speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic is AMAZING!

I am impressed how fast it shifts and how it complements the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 with the Competition Package. The car is pushing 575 HP will do 0–60MPH in 3.6 seconds and I have to say the transmission has never failed me. I would be interested in driving the same car with a manual transmissions for comparison.

Dina has this option for M3 too! http://www.dinancars.com/product/d90...?series=&mid=/

It is extraordinary! I absolutely love it.

I disagree with several of GB's comments. It is a beast of a machine.

As I'm sure you know, the DCT is faster, but 3.9 v 4.2 for 0-60 really is splitting hairs. The manual is much more driver oriented and exciting than any DCT ever could be.
John how do you like the light interior? I will most likely go this direction my only concern is staining from jeans?

To stir the pot have you driven the c63 amg? I was a huge M guy until I started driving amgs.
I have not driven the C63, and I have nothing against AMG at all as I like most of their models but the C63 just doesn't do it for me looks wise.

I love the Interior.
I have not yet had wet jeans in the car. I've been dry every time that I have worn jeans so I can't tell you about staining.

You don't lose traction constantly in gears 1-3 shifting at high rpm? I had traction control engage redline shifting between 3-4th at around 125mph. The engine is seriously underrated in terms of power and torque. It needs wider rear tires at a bare minimum imho. If it wasn't raining I drove with dsc off most times to alleviate the intervention.

Btw I like that color

The more you remind me (I got rid of mine about a year ago) the more I recall how crap the dct was compared to pdk. The car was very jerky in auto mode and as such I typically was rowing myself at all times. It would jump at low speeds and make me look like a fool all the time, while also pissing off the wife PDK never had that issue. Much more civilized for day to day driving.

I change my mind, the 6speed is probably the better choice.
I guess I don't really listed to the exhaust note of the competition, or the prior model. My prior model was a 328i m-sport coupe, so the new one is a lot more fun. And, my neighbors hate it! That might be the best part.

I definitely spin the tires between gears. That's part of the fun and I know it's coming. I will likely put different tires on to go to the track. If it's raining and/or cold, I pretend it is not an M3 and drive it very modestly.

Thanks for the color comment. It is the first ever US BMW in that color. It is an old Audi color called Venetian Violet. If the sun is not shining brightly, it is actually a very dark purple, like eggplant.

I had the Dinan DCT tune on my M3. It fixed the reverse engagement delay and smoothed out the jerkiness. I had some gripes but overall, it was worth the money.

I actually started this search looking for a larger sedan (7 series) and have beat this topic to the ground and after being in a buddy's M4 the other night I was blown away. I was naive as to how brutally fast they are !
