In over my head
I have been going back and forth for the past four days, I cannot seem to make a decision. To make things worse, I am now considering a GMT and SD.
I narrowed my choices to 116610LV and the 116610LN a day ago, but now I expanded them to a BLNR and a 116600. I need some great advice, please. If you own either one of them, please share your experience. Why did you go with one over the other? Tell me what features I will miss out on if I go with X. Thank you in advance. |

If they were all lined up I would select the LV or sea dweller

I had the LV. Stunning watch, beautiful. But after a while, I found that I wasn't wearing it as much as the others, because of the color. If I'm wearing a blue suit, that green really isn't going to go well with it. Really, anything other than khaki or green, it doesn't work so well. Jeans... maybe, but I just got tired of it, I guess, and it's gone.
That's me. The BLNR is next on my list, FWIW.

SD4k for me. I have one now. The brushed bracelet makes it great for everyday wear. I also enjoy the thickness of the case and matte dial. BLNR is also a great watch. Some people don't care for the PCL's.

SD for me. I love the case design, love the cyclops free crystal and it feels like a very robust watch. The black will go with everything, so it will be more versatile than the LV or the BLNR, and less flashy and more subdued as well.

So both BLNR and Sub LV are in your choices. These two plus the Daytona c and DSSD blue are kind of the most highly sought models in today's Rolex SS lineup. If you like any of them, what is the reason not to get it?

Great choice Shannon! I would definitely pick that one too for the thickness and "exclusivity". Especially if rumors are authentic about its discontinuity.

I think starting out, I would go with a sub or the SD. Then add a GMT down the road.

I choose 116610LN because one is blue, one is green, and one is too thick.

Ask yourself do you want a diver or a GMT. Then go from there IMO. That's really a personal choice or functionality you need from your own lifestyle. If you're picking up another later anyway, just go with which sings the loudest to you and save for the other later.

If your first or only, 116610LN. Classic. Versatile. (Near) Perfection (Submariner would be my first choice).
If you are ok with the thickness, nothing wrong with the SD instead. Similar style, certainly rarer in the wild, some nice differentiators, just too thick for me personally. BLNR if and only if you need/want a GMT complication. Doesn't bring anything else to the table for me to choose it over the Sub Date or SD. LV wouldn't be a good choice for me as a primary or only watch. The color is beautiful, but limiting and not as versatile as I want an everyday watch to be. All great watches and you're sure to love whatever you end up with |

I've owned the 116610LN, the BLNR and 116600 SD4K. All very different watches and all great.
116610LN is as classic as it gets, and a great size and thickness with glidelock. The 116600 is like its bigger brother, thicker case and heftier, which I really enjoy but depends if you like something lighter, which then the 116610 would be a better choice. And if you like something a bit shinier, the BLNR with PCL and also adds a pretty useful GMT hand especially if you travel. I have always been a sub guy but after owning the BLNR I appreciate the much smaller clasp of the BLNR which I find more comfortable, with the tradeoff being no glidelock, so depends if that's something important to you. I think it also depends on what other watches you have in your collection, as if you have a lot of brushed bracelets a BLNR may be a nice complement, or if you have a smaller collection the Sub-C may be the more classic choice. Truly no bad choice out of the ones you've narrowed it down to. Good luck and looking forward to seeing what you decide on! |

If I could only have 1 Rolex it would be my SD4k. Goes great with shorts and a t shirt or a suit and tie. The BLNR is incredible though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

BLNR over the others. The watch goes with almost anything unlike the LV.

The SDc is a favourite due to the lugs and dial. I would certainly be seriously considering that model.

Nothing is better to help with decisions than trying on the models you are interested in.

I love the cyclops so I would either choose the Sub LV , LN or BLNR. I first had the ND sub and really didn't like that I had no date (even though I liked the symmetry of the dial) So I sold that and bought the DJ II. I Loved the DJ II however after wearing it for a few weeks something wasn't sitting right with me, after reading some threads I figured out the proportions were off and boy were they right. Once I read that it was like BINGO! Then I sold that and bought the watch I was originally going to get (the SubC Date) before my wife / forums talked me out of the cyclops.
I really do LOVE the SubC Date and I even put a deposit down on the BLNR because that was in contention too, but after seeing it in person side by side with the sub the choice was clear to me, sub all the way (even though the BLNR is an awesome watch, there is just nothing like a sub IMO.) Then when I was visiting family on the east coast of Florida I stopped by an AD and they had the Sub LV and OMG is that dial / watch beautiful. I have been hearing rumors of them discontinuing it and that would really suck if I missed out on it. So now I am thinking of selling my sub c LN and buying the LV just so I have it and then going back for the LN later this year. Hopefully they are just rumors and if my watch doesn't sell before Basel then I'll either have more time to buy the LV or I'll be SOL (I could just buy it now, but I've spent a lot of money on watches lately and I am trying to build my family a house so they come first.) My advice is to REALLY take your time and figure out which watch YOU like the most. It might take a little time and you will go back and forth quite a bit, but one should sing to you. This will save you money and grief in the future, because if there is really one that you know deep down you want and you don't go for that first you will eventually end up with it and it may come in the way of flipping a few watches. Good luck man, let us know what you choose |

My choice is the 116610LN. It's the perfect first Rolex and the perfect start to a collection, mainly because it's great as a 'one piece collection' until you add others...or not. It's also the most versatile Rolex and one of the most versatile luxury watches, if not the most. I know it's a 'typical' choice, but as long as you like it you have nothing to worry about. The others you mentioned are nice too...but hulk isn't as versatile, neither is gmt, and SD is a little bulky and might not fit under every cuff, but this does not make any of these bad watches by any means.
Go to your AD, try them all on, but my vote is sub c date |

I mulled the exact same set. Quickly removed the green Sub from the list due to the color. Then removed the BLNR due to no real need for a GMT right now, though that will always be on my list. I feel that I'd get the BLNR before a Sub. But just wish it had the glide lock.
Which left me with the SubC and the SD4K. I went back and forth. I tried them both on several times at my local AD. In the end, I chose the SD4K for the following reasons; no cyclops, had date function, narrower lugs, shorter lug to lug, bezel insert with the 60 minute markers, raised crystal, slimmer crown guards, more symmetrical, more balanced weight wise, matte dial, exclusivity/rarity/less common, helium escape valve (I have no practical use for it, but think it looks cool ) and price. I could get a brand new SD4k for the same money as a brand new SubC. I've heard people say that there are no differences between the Sub and the SD4k. That the SD4k should be removed from the lineup because it doesn't have a place. I just listed 13 things that are different. The list is longer of course, but I felt that there is/was so much more to love about the SD4k than the Sub. Of course, it all comes down to personal preference. Some might say they love the Sub for the opposite reasons that I love the SD4k. I've only worn 42mm + watches in the past, and thought that the Subs case would better suit my taste, but having tried both on and comparing them side by side, the SD4k just felt right on my wrist and looked so much better IMO on my wrist. I wear a dress shirt nearly every day for my career and had concerns that the SD4k wouldn't work under the cuff due to the thickness, but it works quite well actually. In the end, the decision process is part of the fun! Enjoy it and choose the one that gives you the "wow" factor feeling. |

116610LV & BLNR are both great and among my favorite current offerings from Rolex.
