Question on hornback strap

Hi all,

I just took delivery of a 26170 Navy and it wears a little loose on my small wrist. I was wondering if punching an extra hole into the hornback strap would not damage anything.

Also, I was wondering if it is possible to swap out the deployment clasp and fit in a tang buckle instead.

Here's a quick photo:

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, you can put an extra hole in your horned back - I've done similar to my strap. If you don't have a proper leather hole punch, the best alternative "tool" to use for the hole is an air needle (to inflate a football, basketball etc) as it produces also exact same size hole as the original ones on your strap. You also need a rubber mallet or small hammer to do the job.

I have an 18mm tang buckle for one of my Royal Oak 15300s that I occasionally wear on my ROO horned back straps as they share same width (18mm) at the buckle. Keep in mind the new ROO 26470 uses a 20mm-wide buckle whereas your Navy Themes (reference 26170) uses an 18mm-wide buckle. Good luck.

Just a question, the wear inside the dial (on the numbers more precisely) is something that comes with the watch when is bought new or ?

New or pre-owned, the numbers on the dial should not be "flaking" or delaminating like that. Or is it just the lighting in that photo?

Just to add to my earlier post, here are photos to show that a tang buckle (again 18mm) will fit on the horned back strap from the ROOs with reference no 26170, which your Navy Themes is. In the attached photos, the strap on the bottom (perforated calf strap with red stitching) is for a 15300/15400 Royal Oak. The rubber strap on the top comes from my Jarno Trulli. Both straps use the 18mm wide deployment or tang buckle.

Thank you all for your help! I had to do a double take and check the numbers to see if they were flaking...apparently it's just the lighting. The light bounces off the numbers and shows up as slivers...got scared for a minute...:)

May I ask what the mallet or hammer is for?

If you don't have a proper leather hole punch, then as I had suggested in a earlier post that you can use an air needle to act as a hole punch. You would need a mallet or a small hammer to apply blunt force on the head of the air needle to punch the hole in the strap.

Hope I was able to explain it more clearly this time.

Got it. I was thinking it would be needed to straighten out the strap or something...:) Thank you very much. I really appreciate your help.

I'll also probably be getting the rubber strap for this one soon.
