1665 GW vs 5513 Maxi

Time for a debate,
Which of the two would you buy if you could only have one?

I like the larger wearing SD, the true "superdome", the helium escape valve, and the fact that it is the ultimate "tool" watch.
The 5513/maxi is cool due to symmetry and the lack of date function.
I think i am partial towards the 1665.

What would be your pick?

I love them both, but I have a tender-spot for a nice 1665

5513 for me. Could never get the SD to sit on my wrist comfortably. Love the look just not the fit.

Have both and by far the 1665 is the better watch.

I prefer the simplicity and the size of the 5513.

I've had several of both references, and it is indeed a tough call.

I ended up selling both of my 1665s (red and white versions) because my 5512 just wears better on my 7-inch wrist and I wasn't wearing the 1665s as much. I prefer how it sits flatter on the wrist, and it's also lighter, of course. Also, you can still get that great vintage dome look with a 5512/13.

Of course, they're both amazing and it might come down to whether you like bigger/chunkier watches, or those that are a little more streamlined.

Tough choice! These are quite possibly my two favorite vintage models. Right now I'd have to say that I prefer my 5513 overall, but wearing the 1665 is a blast because it's so unique.

Both are becoming hard to find in really nice condition, especially the 1665 IMO.

Difficult choice, I too currently own both and aside from a 1680 red are probably my two favourite vintage models.

I also have small 7 inch wrists but as mine are 'flatter' I don't have a problem with the fit of either, however, there is a noticeable difference between the two models (size and weight).

As stated previously, it's becoming more and more difficult to source either in top condition but they are out there it just takes patience waiting for the right one to come up.

I would suggest that you try both to see which one fits better, at the end of the day we can all give you our opinions but they are just that. Its down to what you prefer once you have tested both.

Here are mine ..

The choice, like your user name, is "tough"

I personally like the chunkier feeling of the 1665, and there is something special about that silver date wheel. Both are spectacular pieces though, you couldn't go wrong with either!

I own a 1665 and a 5513. It´s a tough choice. If it´s the only watch I would go for the 5513. It´s the more useful watch when used daily. Most of the time I go for the 5513 myself. The thickness of the 1665 may be a problem sometimes. That is less of a problem with the 5513. It can be used on almost any occasion.

Here is a picture of my 1665 from yesterday. It really is a nice watch - so is the 5513. I would not wanna choice between them really. I bought my 5513 first and added the 1665 later. Hard to pass on such a nice example. Suggest you do the same.

Good luck with whatever choice you make. Follow your heart.

both great watches. Nothing beats a maxi mk1 5513. In my opinion they personify the intersection of simplicity and elegance and have a more balanced design than the 1665.

I'm not sure if this will make any sense, I prefer looking at, and photographing my former 5513.

But in terms of actually using a watch, the 1665 has my vote. I just love how the darn thing wears.

Versus

By the way, really observant people will also notice that my GW is a maxi, quite possibly the cheapest and most undesirable variant next to luminovas :-) but I don't really care the thing wears and looks like a dream!

On point, Greg mate!

Nearly nothing can beat the fantastic simple and symmetric design of a 5513 MK1.
Perfect for every situation and so comfortable to wear :-)

I prefer 1665 of the two references compared.
But I'd rather have a gilt 5512 or 5513 than either of them.

Beautiful 5512
Agree the flattter of the two would be my choice after wearing an SD oR two for a while.

I have all three (1665, 5512, and 5513) but if I have to keep one, I think it will be 1665 due to its heavy duty case construction.
