Straight from Rolex
I emailed Rolex to ask about the laser etched crown. This is the reply
Dear Jeweller, Thank you for your inquiry. Kindly note that the laser etched engraving is extremely difficult to see and normally would be located at the 6 o'clock side of the watch. However, as your customer's model is a Sea-Dweller, it would not necessary be placed at the 6 o'clock side. We would suggest using a 25x loupe to search the entire EDGE of the crystal (the laser etching will be located at the very edge of the crystal, the bottom of the laser etched crown almost touches the edge of the crystal). Please advise us if we can provide you with any further assistance. Sincerely, After Sales Service Rolex Canada Ltd. [email protected] |

Well, if the replacement crystal was an old stock then it may still not have the LEC either.

Nope, not on models that lack a cyclops. They can be anywhere.

That makes sense. No Cyclops, no reason for it to at the 6 o'clock position.

Shining a flashlight through the crystal from the side (not from the top) at about the same level as the crystal and circling it around the crystal should help you find that LEC much easier without the need of a loupe.

My daytona doesn't have a "CYCLOPS" and has it's etching spot-on the 6, and I have had a few all like that!

Well good and gentle readers. Even under high magnification I still could not find it. But ever the optimist I will try another method and report back
