1675 in the wild
Went out to a football match tonight - compliments of a manufacturing engineering firm with which our factory does business.
The rep picks me up at my house, first time I've met him, seems a straight up guy. I notice immediately he's 's sporting a plexi GMT. I say - hey, I've got one just like it, but it's in for service at the moment..is that a 1675 or a 16750. He says I dunno, I tell him mine's from the eighties, he says his is older than that. I ask if it's a quick set date - he says no. OK - he's wearing a 1675.. I spend the evening with him and a couple of coworkers of mine, at the match, have a few pints, so I get a really good look at it. Matte dial, bezels a bit faded. Looks in good nick over all *except* that the 24 hour hand was showing about 0100 but it was actually 1900. So...it seems the thing is in need of service....he did make a comment about how expensive that would be. I left it basically alone because I'm thinking to ask him if he's interested in selling it. Only the second Rolex I've run into in my new country here so far in my line of work. Sure bloody wish Bexley would finish with mine though.

Sweet! I love seeing a vintage piece in the wild. Especially when it's with the original owner. If only those pieces could talk, the stories they could tell.

It might be something other than a 1675 if the hour hand and 24 hour were not synced up, probably a 16750...or that 1675 has serious problems!
I always like seeing vintage pieces in the wild, I have had the nerve a few times to offer to buy them, but no luck so far! ~Scott |

Finding watches like that in the wild is like...stumbling upon gold bars by accident.

When I see him next I think I will simply tell him that if he's interested in selling at all he should ask me first. See where that goes you know.

I wore my 1675 out all last weekend, but unfortunately, never saw anyone wearing a similar GMT. Ill continue to keep my eye open though. I just love spotting Rolexes in the wild. When you love brand as much as I do, its pretty easy to notice if somebody else is wearing one.

I hope I get to go again actually. Seeing vintage Rollies in the wild really is a rare treat. I was on a plane recently and the guy siting across the aisle from me was wearing what looked like a fat lady GMT. I would have asked about it but he didn't look like the kind of guy who wanted to make chit chat with strangers. Plus my hearing isn't so good so I would have struggled to hear him with the background noise. I couldn't help looking at it for the nine f*&^%king hours I sat there wondering what model it was. Kinda stressful actually.

Wearing this one today and the picture sort of fits into the "1675 in the wild" theme. Wearing today because watch is going to Bob Ridley for service and change-out of hands that match the dial's patina.
