Sub Question of History
I was discussing an acquaintance's Rolex Sub and my GMT2 while waiting in Starbucks today. Just a casual conversation between a couple of new owners of our dream watches, a little mutual admiration, etc. Ya know - the usual stuff folks discuss in the queue in coffee shops.
He said that the U.S. Navy used to give newly-minted submarine commanders a shiny new Rolex Submariners with their promotions. Anybody know if this is true?

Many thanks! Fascinating bit of history there. Seems it was not sub commanders but Navy divers. Like the UDT guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Don't know about the Navy... But my friend was in the Rangers in 1982... After completing ranger school/ he was able to get a Rolex at cost... I do not know what model.
